KustumCranbrook Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 New here. Found out about this site from around the web and word of mouth. I think I hit paydirt here. My name is Otto. I'm from Columbus, OH. I own a 1952 Plymouth Cranbrook. I am in the beginning stages of a total build. The car, when purchased almost 9 yrs ago. Was factory original everything. I drove her everywhere. The Overdrive went out. That made long trips a real treat. She still went, but I was worried that it would be too hard on the old motor. I've decided over this winter to do a few upgrades. The motor is being pulled out and striped down. I think it is a 218, but someone has said that it might be a 217. Any help on that one will be great. Anywho...I'm going to have it sent out to a machine shop to be bored and ported .60 over. from what I was told, this will make it run like a 230. I love the motor alot and want to keep the car for the most part the same. Just with a little punch. Not building a racecar, but just a little something under the pedal when I push it. I have found the Offy intake for duel carbs. Looking for one that can run 2x2's Not 2x1's. Any suggestion? I am also looking for the duel headers. Not the cut versions made from the orginals. I've seen pics. on here of the split headers, the sets of two with three pipes going to one dump on each side. I need help finding those PLEASE. Looking for a Cam too. One that is compatable with what I'm doing to the motor. So far I have the following. All the pistons and rings for .60 over. Brand new Painless wiring harness. Some top end gears and the complete Valve kit. I'll try to get some pics of the old girl up on my profile soon. Also...I'm needing info and a tranny. The three speed on the column is in fine working order, However, I'd like to move it to the floor. I've always been a big fan of the Swans Neck floor shift. Are there any Old Mopar tranny's that will bolt up to my motor to do this? Thaks for reading this "Book" Happy to be here and hope to meet everyone. Otto. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 Welcome, Otto. You did find the right place. I'll let those far more expert than myself address your questions. Just wanted to say Hi from southwest Missouri. My car is a 47 Plymouth with a 57 flathead, but no extra goodies on it. Bored 30 over. It goes OK, but not fast on the top end. You could get your overdrive repaired - or if you want to replace it, then there probably will be someone on this forum interested in acquiring the OD. Quote
randroid Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 Otto, Welcome to the forum! I have a spare 3 speed tranny, and if you can't find one anywhere else I can help you with that. Good luck, and please post pictures because they're easier for some of us to read than words. -Randy Quote

Andydodge Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 Otto, gidday from Downunder.......the repoped Fenton Headers are avaiable from Tom Langdon at www.stoveboltengineco.com , he also does a HEI dissy for the mopar 6, the Offy intake uses the original single barrel carbys, but adaptors to suit the Ford Stromberg 94/97's are available, checkout Langdon for those and also the Weber Carter late model carby's & adaptors, whatever you do get the engine balanced, will make a big difference to it, Earl Edgerton in California does a Finned head, also grinds cams.......rebuild the O/d or chase up a T5 for a floor shift setup.......regards, andyd Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 Welcome aboard Otto; Nice looking car. I lived in Columbus for several years and my wife grew up there. We still have family there and return once a year or so. What part of town do you live in? There is a bunch of good speed equipment available for your car. Just depends on how deep your pockets are and what your goals are. I installed a long block Desoto flathead 6 engine in my 1948 Plymouth. Dual carburetors, dual exhaust, dual point distributor, lumpy cam, T-5 five speed overdrive floor shifted transmission, and a Dodge Charger 3.55/1 differential. For pictures follow my Photobucket link below. I have driven my car on several long road trips and it is as dependable as the day is long. Quote
mackster Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 Welcome to the forum Otto!...Great looking little Cranbrook you got there! I like the paint scheme, it looks awesome... Quote
KustumCranbrook Posted December 8, 2008 Author Report Posted December 8, 2008 Thanks Mackster. Her front-end is pulled off right now and the motor is being taken down to the block to be sent out to the machine shop. By this coming spring if all goes well. She'll be running much better and smoother. I'm going to re-shoot the paint and do it the right way. It's a one of a kind blend with alot of pearl in the paint. The roof is all pearl white. Got very lucky on snagging up some new Blankets for the seats that go great with the color. Quote
