ChrisCoccia Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 I am looking at batteries for my 6 volt truck and I came across something advertised as a 6/12 battery that states it runs the starter motor with 12 v and everything else with 6v. Anybody know anything about this? The site is called Antique Auto Battery. Quote
Allen I. Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 I'd be interested in this application. Here is the link: http://www.antiqueautobattery.com/prod011.htm It is near the middle of the listings, not hard to spot. Quote

Guest P15-D24 Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Worked great. It's got a bit of a Rube Goldberg appearance, but it works as advertised. Gives you 12 volt cranking, 6 volt run. I would suggest first fixing why the 6 volt isn't working right, but if you need a low buck quick fix for hard starting, this is it. If the battery dies in the middle of a trip getting a replacement quickly could be a problem. Quote
MBF Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 I had one of those in my '36 plymouth years ago, then went to an 8 volt, then decided to convert it to 12v w an alternator. the 6/12 is pricey, and the 6 volt bulbs were getting the same way. I was tired of replacing a 6 volt batt every year (car sits in the garage most of the time). Just found the correct bulbs so I can put my original headlight relectors back in and get rid of the sealed beam conversions. Did the same with my 52 1 ton a couple-3 yrs ago. If I had to do it over again, I'd go right to the 12V conversion-but that's me. Mike Quote
