brian hood Posted November 29, 2008 Report Posted November 29, 2008 Hey, Has anyone found a disk brake set-up that will work without too many mods? Will a Dakota hub fit onto a Pilot House hub? If I can find a way to make the mods, I have access to a Dakota for parts thats very cheap. Brian Quote
Young Ed Posted November 29, 2008 Report Posted November 29, 2008 I've been hoping someone would come up with a method for just that. I have some nice american racing wheels with good tires that I would consider for my next truck project. The issue is that they are the later 6bolt style dakota wheels. So I'd have to be able to use dakota disk brakes on the front. Quote

Olddaddy Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 My kits require you to open up the two lower mounting holes by about 1/16" and tap for 5/8" fine thread. You also open up the holes in the steering arms to 11/16". I can do this for you if you cannot do it yourself. My bolt pattern is stock Mopar 5 on 4 1/2". The kits are on sale through the end of the year for $200 including shipping. My page www.rustyhope.com. Quote
Young Ed Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Wow I just looked at those wheel adaptors. $99 per side. I could buy new wheels just as cheap. Would still like to somehow find out if a 6bolt dakota rotor could be substituted or made to work. Quote
woodscavenger Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 A machine shop may be able to drill out the GM rotor to the 6 lug pattern. Buy a disc, take it to the shop with the correct pattern and see what they say. If no then return the disc. Are you swapping the rear end as well with the Dakota or are you going to end up with a mix? Why not look into a full frame swap with this Dakota? You would have brake, steering, IFS........ Quote
Young Ed Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Yes I would be swapping the dakota rear end as well. Truck is planned to be powered with a flathead and 5spd so not much point in a full frame swap. Besides I've already got a dakota to drive. I don't need another truck that rides like a dakota. If I cant get the front to be 6lug I will just end up buying wheels and using a 5lug dakota rear end. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 You shouldn't have a problem getting a GM rotor drilled out to fit the Mopar hub lugs. If ECI can do it, any other good machine shop should be able to. The ECI disc brake system uses a 1979 - 80 Firebird/Camero rotor and they will drill it to fit the Mopar bolt pattern like I had them do. Quote
Young Ed Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Think there is enough room for 11 holes? Seems like some would be too close together at that point. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Should have enough room. Here's what the GM rotor looks like with it drilled out to Mopar pattern. Now, not sure if this system even works on a truck, but the room on the rotor should be there. Quote
