steveplym Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 How hard is it to pull out the steering column in a P-15? I need to paint it and the steering wheel and I was wondering if it would be easier to pull it or try to tape it up and spray it. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 Not sure, but I think the only way to pull it is from under the car by dropping the steering box and pulling it all at once. Don't think there is enough room inside the car before you hit the roof of the car. Steering wheel is easy to pull. Quote
bigred48 Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 I pulled mine but i only took out the steering box and the inner part, I wonder if maybe you could pull the outside from the inside because it is a bit shorter, also if you unscrew the part that attaches it to the dash it will tilt down about 2 inches and you will be able to get some more space to pull the column on the interior. I don't know if this will work, but it's just a thought. Quote

1949P17BC Posted November 7, 2008 Report Posted November 7, 2008 Just did it, If you want to take the steering box and shaft, it comes out thru the bottom. Remove the steering wheel, disconnect the horn, steering arms, etc. get the front end as high as comfortable and pull it out. If you wan tthe tube out, now is the time, pretty straight forwrd. Any question feel free to call me @ 314-406-1039 Mark Quote
