are these windshield trim pieces correct for me?...

do these windshield center trim pieces look like they belong on a '50 plymouth? the backsides look flat which makes me wonder how two pieces of flat glass that meet at an angle could fit in between the trim sections?

does this look like it will fit?

did i even say all that right?

note: i do not yet have these in my possession, so i cannot test fit them.

i didn't want to buy them if they are not the right ones.

By the way. If in doubt about those being the correct size, there is a part number stamped on the back of those. Of course you'll need a parts book to verify the number. I don't have a parts book for the 50, just the 46-48, so I can't help with that.

Not sure about the 50 Plymouth, but Steele Rubber has the rubber gasket for the 46-48 Plymouth. Check their website or call them. They do have their catalog online. The rubber gasket for the 46-48 center section is a separate piece. Don't know how the 50 is made.

Norm the center section on my car is 1 piece with the rest of the windshield gasket. 50 should be the same as well. As for that trim piece you are correct they all look similar. I was mostly judging by the wood grain color which looks correct for 49-50 from what I can see.

Ed,

I've seen the P15 windshield both ways. One piece or two piece. As a point of interest, I did order a new center gasket for my coupe from Steele Rubber. Still have not put it in yet, but it does fit. You just need to trim it for length. So.......you can get it both ways. Steel rubber also sells the gasket for around the whole windshield, in addition to the center piece.

I installed a new 1 piece one in my car shortly before the crash. The old one I removed was 1 piece also. I've got a brand new 2 piece one that I couldnt get to install correctly so I just ordered the 1 piece one.

Where did you get the two piece one? Anyway, if you look at Steele Rubbers catalog, either online or off you'll see the two piece for the P15.

As to fit, I've seen a lot of people complain about various window seals not fitting properly. Biggest one complained about has been Andy B. However, I've ordered rubber parts from both Andy B and Steele. They both fit fine. However, Andy B's is a firmer rubber so it's harder to make it fit properly and takes more patience to make it fit. Plus it dries out and cracks faster. But........like I said the wind wing gaskets I bought from him did fit (without modifications) after playing with them for awhile. I think the reason most people have problems making their rubber gaskets fit is, they just don't have the patience to take the time and make them fit. They want them to fall into place automatically.;)

The 2 piece one came with my car. It was new but I'm not sure where it was ordered from.

It did look like the same basic profile as the old one but really it could be wrong as you said. Anyone want a cheap windshield gasket??

I just couldn't get it to lay down into the corners. Both the length for around the windshield and the middle piece were longer. I figured they were trim to fit but its possible they were for a dodge or something too. Perhaps they were longer so the same piece fits the whole DPCD lineup.

In that case, it's probably a good bet it's for the larger model cars of our years. Some years ago I bought a nice complete set of stainless trim and the center bar off ebay that they said was for 46-48 Dodge. Assuming the windshields were the same, I bought it. That's how I know they are larger. I really never measured the stainless part since I didn't need it. I bought it all because I was after the center bar. When I got it the center bar was too long, so I couldn't use it after all.

here's what i'm using. i got it from a friend who works on the local miltary base. they use this stuff on the glass on all the heavy construction equipment. lousy photo, but you can see the groove at the top for the glass, the groove at the bottom for the pinch weld on the body, and the "flap" on the right actually pushes up under a lip locking the whole thing into place. it doesn't move at all, it's very strong.

i couldn't use a standard molded gasket as my windshield is chopped 7-1/2 inches. this stuff i'm using is on a roll, by the foot. plus, after using it, i'm sold on it's ease of installation and the profile once the glass is in looks slender like a factory gasket. it's also very pliable and will hold up to the extreme heat we get out here in las vegas.

i do still need the center rubber however.
