Fernando Mendes Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 On the engine with 4 cylinders we have an angle of 180º for each stroke, because 720º/4 =180º.On the engine with 6 cylinders we have an angle of 120º for each stroke, because 720º/6 =120º.Two turns of vibration damper correspond 720º. MBF Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 I think what you're trying to say is that in a 4 cyl the power pulses are 180 apart (2 per crankshaft rotation), and in a 6 cyl they're 120 degrees apart (3 per crankshaft rotation) right? Mike Quote
Merle Coggins Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 Right Mike. Fernando was right the first time. On a 6 cylinder, 4 cycle engine, there will be 6 power strokes per every 720 degrees of crank rotation (2 revolutions). 720 degrees divided by 6 cylinders = 1 power stroke every 120 degrees. 4 cylinder engines would have a power stroke every 180 degrees 8 cylinder engines would have a power stroke every 90 degrees 12 cylinder engines would have a power stroke every 60 degrees A single cylinder engine fires every 720 degrees unless it's a 2 stroke engine, like a chain saw or weed wacker, then it fires every 360 degrees. Yes Merle and Mike, now I could learn this stuff well. The finallity of this forum is to learn and study. Now I saw that each stroke is different in 4 and 6 cylinders engine. Thanks Quote
