I have changed the front running lights on my truck from single element to dual element so that I can use them as front turn signal lights as well. In New York State ( or at least where I went ) the front turn signals have to be Amber in color to pass safety inspection so I had to paint the reflector inside. I came across this truck on ebay last week that had Amber Glass. I talked to the guy and he claimed they where stock? I have never seen stock Amber Glass nor can I seem to find any. Anyone know if Amber Glass was stock, and where I might find some? The truck on the left is the ebay Truck, the one on the right is mine. Dutch

Dutch, My B3C had amber lenses in the front turn signals but I'm pretty sure they weren't stock. I found some identical lenses from a company called Truck-lite. They don't sell retail online but rather sell through distributors. These were the same size as what I assume were the stock clear ones but they were held in with a bead of body putty! I cleaned them up and they look pretty good but I can safely say these were not stock. They are also a plastic material where I think the originals were glass. Don Bunns book has numerous pictures and although it's not a color book, the front turn signals all appear to be clear lenses if that's any indication. Hope this helps. Dave

I am running white light in my coupe. NY allowed white signals till about 62 or 63, when most manufactureres switched over to amber. So should be that any vehicle manufactured prior to that would be allowed to use white or clear lenses, as that is how they were made, and complied to the laws at the time of production. I do not think that the laws can make you upgrade if your car or truck came from the factory with clear/white. I do remember that there was aftermarket stuff available mostly for Chevies and Fords so you could make your 55 Chebbie look like a 64 light wise.

Maybe it is just where I had my inspection done. They said clear would have been fine if they where just running lights, but as I am using them as turn signals also they didn't pass it until I painted the reflectors Amber. I would have been happy to install Amber Bulbs, but have not been able to find them in anything other than clear, in 6 volt. Dutch

Dutch-I'm pretty sure its where you took it to get it inspected. I've got GREEN parking light lenses on the front (actually marker lights under the bumper and converted the parking lights to just signals-but left them clear. Mine passed-but the guy is a fellow officer in our local ATCA (Antique Truck Club of America) chapter. Mike

I found amber 6V bulbs for my B2B, which I also converted for turn signal use. One thing to be aware of is the ground for the bulb is the housing where it bolts to the nose (at least on the 48-50). I used JB Weld to "glue" the newer two-filament plug to the original housing. I found out later that JB does not conduct electricity. I had to grind away a little and fill in with a bead of solder...

Jim, can you tell where you found those bulbs? Dutch
