Hello all. I'm new to this forum and thought instead of lurking around unannounced for a year or two I'd intro myself right off the bat. I'm in Portland, Oregon and am the proud family care-taker of a 1950 Dodge Woodie. My grandfather purchased the truck new in 1950. It has been on many camping trips, hunting outings, and was his primary work vehicle as a cabinet maker. My father learned to drive in the truck and loved it. When he left for college at OSU in Oregon my grandparents decided to follow him from Wyoming and ended up selling the truck for a sedan. In the 70's my father got it in his head that he needed to find the woodie and get it back in the hands of the family and after a long search and many DMV records he did it. It wasn't actually far from their old house in Wyoming. He brought it home to Oregon and within a few years started a full frame off restoration.

We used to show it but it hasn't seen much action lately. I believe it won a few awards at the Forest Grove show back in the day. It's only recently made its way to my house where I've been taking it out for short drives and enjoying the Oregon summer as third generation owner. I'm hoping to do more car cruises next summer.

The last item that was never done correctly were the taillights. I've been searching for black bucket lights with chrome bezels with no DODGE script. found some at Vintage Power Wagon but they don't come with the license plate light. If you have suggestions I'd love to hear them.

I've already picked up on some great tid bits here so I'm sure this will be a great place to learn.

Here is a picture of the woodie from a while back. I have some great shots from the early 50's of my grandpa and father out hunting and camping that I'll scan at some point and post.

Thanks,

Jeremy Rader

What a great story.

My family hit the shores of America in 1970 and there is precious little we have. One reason I tinker with my truck is to leave something for my boys. Something like that is very special. On top of that, you have a vehicle that likely has many of us drooling.

This is a great resource for you and I am glad you found this place.

Welcome Jeremy. Glad you found us old truck nuts. What a lucky man to be the proud caretaker of that woodie and what an even luckier man to be driving the one your grand father owned. My skin color matches the color of your truck.
