chucky07 Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 I saw on the tips about taking my Oil Bath Air Filter and cutting out the metal mesh stuff and installing a Paper Filter...I remember taking it off and spilling the oil everywhere and this sounds great....Two questions... 1. Is it that easy to cut out the metal and find the proper filter? 2. Is leaving it stock better for the engine..or is the paper filter better? thx...... Quote
dmulhall Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 anyone have a paper filter? what size did you use? Thanks Quote
Merle Coggins Posted August 12, 2008 Report Posted August 12, 2008 I've converted mine to a paper element. I'm using a Napa 542193. After gutting the upper section I make a donut shaped plate to make the bottom flat. I then made some measurements and went to the Napa master filter catalog. It has filter dimensions listed. I found one that looked like it would fit, and it did. Since the upper cover is domed it only seals around the outer edge at the top, but it seems to work OK. Quote
Mario Loya B1B Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 I decided to convert (Norm's website inspired me). The filter I used is a Carquest #88179 for anyone that has a similar type filter housing. It seems to seal quite nicely at the top and the bottom when the wingnut is tightened. Looks pretty darn close to original to me. Quote
Jim Shepard Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 Mario, did you have to make any mods to the canister? Quote
