  1. Since we're on this topic, can somebody explain to me how the operation of the emergency brake is supposed to work? Mine hasn't worked correctly since I got my truck. The pull handle under the dash pulls out, and it rotates, but it does not lock. -Bill
  2. The block markings indicate that the engine is from a 53 DeSoto Powermaster. That would make my engine a 250ci. Would a truck pan have the same dimensions and would the holes line up?
  3. According to the engine markings, that is correct. It is from a DeSoto. That being said, what can be done to stop the axle from hitting?
  4. After doing a bit of research on my '54 straight six, I can't seem to figure out what the deal is with oil pans. The lower-hanging part of the pan that contains the float is facing the rear of the truck. Unfortunately, this places it directly over the front axle. Obviously, the oil pan became dented in at some point because of this. Logic tells me that the pan should be oriented the other way around. It seems that every engine diagram I find online has the pan in a different orientation. Here are some examples: http://www.allpar.com/mopar/flat.html Why the differences and is mine correct? -Bill
  5. Since a few of you asked, here is my '54 C1. Opinions and observations welcome!

  7. Since my registration is due this month, I am going to take the plunge and get an antique plate. Does anybody know if my 54 half ton would have been issued a truck plate or a passenger car plate? I'm in Pennsylvania. I found a website talking about it, but I'm not sure if the truck designation excluded half-ton pickups. http://www.ricksplates.com/pennsylvania/patruck.htm Here are some examples of a passenger plate and a truck plate: -Bill
  8. This may be a stupid question, but what did the loom look like on a '54? Was it a coil/loom combo? My coil is currently mounted on the firewall.
  9. I will get some pictures after I pull it out of the garage. Thanks for the responses everybody. I reattached the filler tube to the block using the bracket. I will have to keep my eyes open for a spark plug wire loom and a vent cap. -Bill
  10. Thanks for the answers. Since you seem to indicate that this is normal, is it good to have unfiltered air going through that tube? -Bill
  11. Hello all, I have a newly-purchased 1954 C1-B6 that I am attempting a first oil change on. I am confused about the oil filler tube. Since it appears to double as a crankcase breather tube, shouldn't it have a filter on the end? Instead, it has this clip-in cap with no filter. Also, is the tube supposed to be able to pull out of the block so easily? It appears to have been kept in place with a piece of wire that has broken off. The setup http://i.imgur.com/v3Yc3ZC.jpg It pulls right out http://i.imgur.com/6F0X9b3.jpg Cap top http://i.imgur.com/cDAUDmD.jpg Cap underside http://i.imgur.com/a0tMWva.jpg Thanks, -Bill
