  1. Hey guys, I never knew the strips were called "shovel strips" Thats interesting. The truck had been painted years ago and had some pin striping. The body and paint was in pretty bad condition. This has been a labor of love as we could never recoup or money or time from this project. Feels good taking a old truck from another time and breathing life back into it.
  2. Hey guys, been a busy week. Well Dad pulled the axle out and cleaned it up and it runs true now but we have more problems. The axle on the problem side has about 3/16 in and out play. In addition the rear end sounds terrible.
  3. Hey guys, I enjoyed reading your comments. The bed is made from 3/4 thick solid poplar boards. I work in a woodworking shop. The poplar was readily available and our finish department was spraying that color the day I had it milled out so it looked good to me. My Dad edge glued it and it took us several hours to assemble the bed and sides. We made it the right width in case we decide to add the metal strips. We have since added 4 small tie downs to the bed. I dont know how people secured anything in these old trucks without tie downs.
  4. I wonder how many times this old truck has had a bed replaced.
  5. So we are almost ready to put our 50 half ton on the road. We noticed on one side the rim was wobbling. We thought maybe it was the rim but when we switched rims the other one wobbled also. Any thoughts???????
  6. So December 2014 we spotted a 50 dodge 1/2 ton setting in the weeds next to a barn. Dad and I wanted it but it had no title. Before we bought it I went to the local BMV and ask about obtaining a title for a vehicle. They walked me thru the process. It seemed doable so we bought it. Eight freakn months later we now have a title. So everything the local BMV told me was total BS. I did everything they told me and was rejected for a title. Then I called the state office in Indianapolis and they set me on the right path. What they recommended was taking them to court. Yes thats what I said lol. Well I know how the process works now but what a pain in the ass.
  7. My Dad deserves all the credit. He has put a lot of hours in this old truck.
  8. I'll take more pics next time im at my dads to work on them. Glad you guys like them
  9. My Dad sent me this picture today. Seems the '50 may last a few more years. It was almost gone when we pulled it from the farmers field with weeds growing around it.
  10. I normally post in the truck section. I was on my way to my dads to work on our trucks and stopped to look at this 68 chrysler newport convertible. They were asking 8900.
  11. yeah thats what i found as well. I actually work very close to milan so I may drive one of the old trucks over there one day.
  12. Yep is said '40 on the window.
  13. 23k was on the window
  14. So I was on my way to my dads to work on the 51 and I noticed a older dodge truck for sale. Well I was wrong. Much to my surprise it was a 40 Plymouth. Thought you guys might enjoy this.
  15. So i was looking through some old paperwork I got when I bought my 51 truck. I was wondering if there is a way to locate where old dealerships were located. I found a written warning from the state police for "Tail lights out" dated 7/7/58. Looks like the owner took it to Smocks auto company the very next day for repair. The letterhead reads "Dodge Plymouth" so was it a dealership?? Oh and the bill was $1.00 for Lubrication and Light repair got to love those 50's prices. The guy I bought the truck from still lives in Milan Indiana so I dont think the truck has went very far from the dealership if it was one.
  16. Laubrauer looks like you need all the space you can get.
  17. yea you know we looked for a long time for a truck and looked at a bunch of junk. Then we found two.. lol Been a learning experience and dad is normally the teacher even though im 44.
  18. Well we already have a 50 that's running and two of these beast take up quite a bit of room in Dads pole barn.
  19. So we took the 51 on the first test drive. Seems to run and stop pretty good. Been pondering putting it up for sale. Think I will redo the seat then maybe post on ebay. Love the body on this old truck and hate to see it go. Been a great sunday with my dad. Nice to have taken the first ride with him.
  20. So we recently refurbished the seat in the 50 dodge truck and am needing to refurbish the seat in the 51 truck. Well the seat looks real good in the 50 but its not to comfy. We bought the kit that's available from Roberts. There was nothing wrong with it but these seats seam to have some sort of fill that looks like straw. This really helps with the firmness of the seat. We had to remove all of that due to the mouse infestation. Anyone know what I could use to replace this material?
  21. hmm that's interesting Jim. I'm considering trying to repair mine. I just got the truck and am considering selling it when i get the brakes fixed.
  22. I am in need of running boards. My 50 doesn't have any running boards and my 51 is rusted thru pretty bad as you can see in the photo. Anyone know of a good source for these?
  23. Here are a couple photos.
  24. Hey guys, thanks for your input. Here is the number on the block if that tells anything about the truck P15536697T. I will post some pictures as soon as I have some.
  25. So we have had our '50 B2B for a while now. We dont think the flat 6 is original and the transmission has been changed to a floor shift. Here is the thing. The dip stick runs thru the block and into the pan where is all the other trucks I've seen the dipstick runs along the outside of the block then directly into the pan. Maybe our motor came out of a car? Also the oil pan seems to be opposite of what it should be. Is there a way to identify what our motor came out of? Your thoughts..........
