  1. heres a pic of my 48 dodge, Decided to go a little different from the stock woodgraining.
  2. The flat part goes to the inside, the groove part goes to the outside. The piece just slips over the metal edge. The rubber seal is attached to the window frame and is mounted from the inside. Hope this helps.
  3. I have a 48 d24 with fluidrive. I had the original engine rebuilt along with the trans. and rear end. I love driving the car but it seems to be really low geared. the rear end is the original. Does anyone know if its possible to do a swap so that it is not so low geared? Or do I have to change the rear end.
  4. I have a 48 D24 and it does have the one wire sending unit. I need to install a new sending unit as well. Sorry I'm not much of help. Once you figure it out I'd like to know how it worked.
  5. Hi fellas, I need some help with my gas sending unit. Does anybody know were I can buy a new one? Bernbaum claims to have them in his catolog but he doesn't. I have a 48 dodge deluxe, single wire to the sending unit.
  6. Hey guys thanks for all the advice. I decided to take the car to a lock shop. These guys really know their stuff. With in an hour they had may car ready to go! They brought revers and third gear back from vacation. It turns out when I took it apart a spring inside the trans popped out of place. What really got me is that they didnt charge me anything. It was a big thing for them to fix it but it was to me! They refuse to let me pay for that hour. It feels good to know that there are still good shops around. They could have easily charged me an arm and a leg like some of these big shops. That why I like the small ma and pop shops!
  7. Thanks for all your help guys. I did mess with the linkage and still no luck. I am pretty sure it is a fluidrive because when first bought the car I drove it and i could stop with out putting the clutch in on third gear. Then just get on the gas and just go. This is what the fluidrive does right? I think I'am a little over my head. I spoke with a guy at a local shop and I will probrably take it to him and take it in the wallet.
  8. Here is a pic of my trans.
  9. Please excuse my lack of knowledge regarding my trans. This is my first old car so please bare with me. When I baught the car it shifted just fine but it did leak. I figured I would replace the gaskets and reinstall it. I must have screwed something up during the process. Now I have no reverse and a driving gear. The trans has three speeds and no wiring of any sorts.
  10. Hey guys Does anybody know were I can get a rebuild kit for a 48 d24 fluidrive. I have use Bernbaum for most of my restoration but some of their stuff dosent fit right or you have to make it work. Besides they are very short and kind of rude. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Has any body rebuilt their fluidrive tranny.
  11. Just wired up my heater in my 48 dodge. I wired it up the same way it was when I bought the car or so I think I did. I took the heater out when I restored the car. There are two wire that come out of the heater. One was a ground wire and the other wire went to the heater switch. A hot wire went to the ingnition from the switch. When I turn on the ignition and turn the heater everything seems to work just fine. The problem I am having is that the resistors (I think thats what there called) that are attached to the switch get extremely hot. This happens even if the heater switch is turned off. Is this normal? I dont think it is! Is there a different way I'm supposed to wire it?
  12. Looking good! Don't you just love sanding, especially around the the windows and windsheild area that have to be done by hand. Keep up the good work!
  13. I used blocks in the rear and just cut the new coils about 3/4 of a turn. I figured if i ever wanted to bring it back to stock height I could just swap springs.
  14. Thanks! Yes it is a pearl white. Its actually the cadillac escalade color with out the tint in the base coat. I wanted it to be a little different.
  15. I'm 28 and have owned my D24 for about six years now. Cant get enough of the old cars especially the the 40's and 50's. There is nothing better than cruising in one of these classics!
  16. I bought my fenderwelt from Andy Bernbaum. They do come in the 8 ft. lenghts, I used two. These were a pain to install. Trying to bend them to shape and line up the fender with out scratching the paint. It took a lot of patience to a few curse words to get it right. Starting on the back of the fender works the best. What I did was rivet the fender welt using very small rivets to the fender. I guess you could rivet it to the car as well. I just used a few rivets just to hold it in place while I mounted the fender.Took a while to figure it out. Hope this helps.
  17. Thanks guys for the info. Sorry I forgot to mention that i kept the car 6 volts. The spot lights do have a switch on them. I will probrably try wiring it to the ignition. Any idea what size fuse I should use? When I rewired the car I use a wiring diagram I got off of ebay but it didn't show anything about fog or spot lights so I was a little iffy. It took me a little while to figure out how to add pics, so I'll add some new large ones a bit later. The car is a Deluxe but I added the chrome trim on the back fender because I like the look. I'm also adding fender skirts.
  18. Hey guys! I'm I a newbee to the forum. I have a 48 dodge deluxe four door that I restored. My question is about wiring new fog lights and spot lamps. I already have them mounted but I am open to any advice I cant get on wiring them up. What is the best way to do it?
