looking for opinions on a plasma cutter?
nj viking replied to nj viking's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
Here is the one in question. http://www.eastwood.com/versa-cut-60-plasma-cutter.html They say its their own machine and consumables are Hypertherm. Plus a three year warranty. I realize its a rebox from somewhere else, but even the bigger better companies smaller units all have componets from china in them with the exception of Hypertherm. The small ones with a compressor in them dont seem to be big enough to justify the $1200 entry fee. The larger ones carry a 2k price tag. Obviously I'm wishing for something that probably doesn't exist but I figured might as well ask. I cant see myself spending 2k on a machine that would probably get 30hrs of use a year. -
I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question, but I'm looking to get a plasma cutter and could use some input. While I like to spend money, I'm not made of it, so it kinda eliminates the big guys ( hypertherm, TD, miller, etc). Was wondering if anybody has used the eastwood plasma cutter and what their thoughts were, and i guess any other import brand for that matter. Also if someone would happen to have or know of a quality used machine for sale, I'm all ears.

The guy I got my 52 from had run it for 30 years on lp; as he worked for a gas company. I test drove it while it was running on lp and though I don't know peak performances of a 230 on gas; the lp fired engine was doin just fine. I plan on changing the orifice and running on cng now. One thing I liked about the propane is that it got around 18mpg in this truck.

Seems as if that grind is a bit too aggressive. Kudos to him to find that out for us though. Soft crank? any thoughts on this? Was it a soft crank or doubling the hp that did the motor in

If he's from Jersey; I'm sure he has thick skin. Baggin on people is kinda our way of starting off the day..

582 million people in a hurry to get somewhere. not a one of them in that video... try diving the turnpike or parkway then report back on that. Hell that road only had 2 lanes; a rarity in itself around here. Like the truck though. Viking

Yup. You have your priority; but when sidelined waiting for parts or frustrated at something on the truck. It is usually better to walk away and focus on something else for a while. If the magical statement " it ran when I parked it" applies to this bike; shouldn't be a problem. Plus you left coast guys probably have to worry about dry rot more than molecular fusion of rusty metal that eats up most of my marvels mystery oil. Reeds might be warped or dry rotted or just stuck. Pull em and clean them. viking

mix some marvels and diesel, pour it into the crank full. let it sit a while, pull the reeds and clean them up. if it all moves it should fire.

Nice.. Figure it all out and take lots of pics and measurements; then I won't screw it up much when decide to go that route. I'm liking it so far. viking -
Those Elsinores always kicked butt back in the days when my brother was riding in the 70's. He used to run huskys and cz's. When I used to race vintage I ran primarily Bultacos; but I got a bug a few years ago and bought a Maico 440gs.. I think I'm still paying the Dr. bills for that one. Dirt seems harder than it used to be so Them bulls is back in the corral. viking

It would be an evo class bike as per AMA rules. probably sell it "as is" pretty quick if you wanted to. Or if your up to it; get it going, put some numbers on it and run it in the next scramble.. Viking
