I'm going tomorrow to look at a 47 Desoto. If I'm not mistaken they are the same over all package of Chrysler as the others of that era are. Are there any unique attributes that I should be aware of or look for? I sold my Saratoga last fall and have missed it ever since. Hope this may help fill the old mopar void I feel in the garage. Thanks

The bigger Chryslers have 5 x 5.5 bolt patterns.

47 Saratoga. Headlights won't turn on unless the ignition key is on. Is this normal or the result of previous owner creative wiring?

I've been enjoying the fall weather cruising in the 47 Saratoga. Been using it as the daily driver and sorting out little bugs. Everything works smoothly and I have been impressed with how it holds its own in traffic. However occasionally when I lift my foot and wait for the famous clicky clack it fails to upshift and at times when I come to a stop it fails to downshift. The next time it works as it should. I understand the parts the solenoid and the governor play. It appears that the governor isn't doing its part on a regular basis. I have the idle slowed down as far as I can and keep it running. Is there something else that would make the governor sluggish or sticking. Thanks.

Problem Solved!! The older I get the more problems I solve in the middle of the night when I should be sleeping. Usually they aren't particularly difficult, but the results of stupid mistakes that I finally remember! I originally had the typical rabbit ear water valve valve and as usual it was seized and not working. I removed it from the head and replaced it with fittings to replace valve. I used an inline valve and was so proud how neat and clean it looked and worked. Cable worked free and smooth better than before. I'm sure you can all see it coming,?when I pulled the cable out to increase the heat I was actually shutting it off instead of on. Sorry for taking everybody's time. I'll mark this solved!!

My core was like this earlier when it was warmer and not needed? My temp valve is new and working freely, water level appears to be up in the radiator. Was curious if there was ever a problem with an air lock?

Been driving and enjoying my 47 Saratoga. The last few days have been chilly enough to want to use the heater. Everything has been cleaned and freed up. The water temp runs between 160 and 180, heater fan works fine but the air coming from the heater is barely warm, no where warm enough to raise temp in the car or defrost any windows. Is that normal for these cars or is there something I have missed.

Master Series silver, or Rust Bullet! Both are an industrial type bridge paint. They require minimum prep work, are uv resistant. Either one are remarkable products. All you need to do for prep is remove as much loose rust as you can with a wire brush and brush it on. It will actually strengthen pinhole areas if they aren't rotted out. Do yourself a favor and google them. They are the only rust repair product that I have used in my lifetime that actually does what they claim. They are ideal for the type of rust in your photos.

Tell me if I'm wrong. If I short across the bottom two big post on the solenoid with a screw driver I should bypass solenoid completely and starter should engage? Never mind...I see that the bottom post on the left goes to the automatic choke. I just can't get any response from the starter....should't be that tough?

That's the way I have mine hooked up and I'm not getting any response when I push the starter button. I'm getting power to the upper right post when I push the button (test light lights) but no click or any sound. I'm afraid my solenoid has bit the big one. Battery is new and shows full charge. It has me puzzled, everything was working fine. I drove it in on the hoist, did some tinkering work on the trim, nothing to do with the mechanics. Went to drive it out three days later and nothing, dead on the hoist! Thinking my next step is pulling the starter out and either getting it rebuilt or replaced, either way rather expensive. couple quick questions. 1. how much of a job is removing the starter, looks like some of the clutch mechanism might be tricky. 2. where would I look to getting it rebuilt or getting replaced. I have no problem tackling the job myself if I can find parts. Anything obvious I may of missed?
