  1. this is my listing on craigslist. i hate to sell her but i need to. $800.00 absolute firm on price. thanks, mike in k.c. http://kansascity.craigslist.org/cto/1971932393.html
  2. it does have a pto. two large levers located on the passenger floor pan. i assume one is a valve to engage/disengage and the other is for direction? there are a few dents on the roof, but very minor.
  3. yep, the wheels came off, and i slowly rolled it in on my floor jack. put the wheels back on and had to ease it the rest of the way in. i hope the house doesnt catch fire, i'll never be able to reverse the process. anyone familier with these larger pilothouses? i know the two speed axle is vacuum operated. everything is supposed to work according to the fella i bought her from. any ideas what these shorter wheel based 1.5 tons were used for primarily? dump truck? stake bed? thanks fellas, mike in k.c.
  4. a few years ago, i posted pics of a 49 B1C which i sold about a year ago. i just brought this little diddy home last week. it's a 48 1.5 ton, 130" wheelbase. i think the motor is a 230 inch, it has a 4-speed and a pto, and a two-speed rear axle. it runs and drives, but needs a little tlc according to the fella i bought her from. brakes no longer hold pressure, but i'll get to that later. it looks like it has been on a farm it's whole life. no rust thru anywhere i can find. it feels like it was was on the farm yesterday. i mean, it looks like you can just get in and go for a ride. i want to keep it just like it is and drive it to and from work. maybe a flat-bed someday, but that's it! i love her! in a perfect world, what gas mileage do you guys think she'll get? better than an 06 dodge ram hemi auto 4x4 short bed regular cab??? you should have seen me getting this monster in the garage! truck is about 4 inches taller than my garage door header. still the original 6 volt positive ground system. gonna tinker on it over the next few weeks and hopefully, drive it next month. we'll see. thanks fellas, mike in k.c.
  5. you do what "you" want to do. it is your truck and what ever you do with it short of putting a yvehc or a dorf engine in it is cool!!!! slam it, pro street it, just keep it mopar! mike in k.c.
  6. me too! that is the site i have seen before that is full of good info and pics.
  7. i think i remember seeing that place on an episode of trucks a few years back. i think they are a manufacterer of heavy-duty drive train components. trucks did a power wagon build up in i think 2004 and they went down there to get some axle/transfer case parts.
  8. i have not had my plate engraved, but a co-worker of mine built a vans rv-6 experimental airplane and had his data plate engraved at a local trophy shop for $15.00. it looked great. his plate had many more characters to engrave than our pilothouse plates. i have thought that it could be stamped by buying a set of the 1/8" letter/number stamps, and making a collet for them to fit and lock into, then inserting the stamp/collet into a milling machine and using the 3 axis of a standard milling machine, just use the quill to drive the stamp into the data plate. that way you have precise distance between letters and rows. i do not think it would take much pressure to make the impression of the letter/number. would work great if you have access to a milling machine! which i happen to have. just a thought! mike in k.c.
  9. i bought mine with shipping came to $15.00. great quality.
  10. i looked on the club site and could not get into the pilothouse gallery. i see tons of finished photos and "as found" photos but very few works in progress pics. thanks jim, mike in k.c.
  11. does anyone here in the forums have their own pilothouse restoration page? such as, photobucket? i have been looking for some detailed photos in varying degrees of progress and have found only one but cannot even access it anymore. it was 101.com i think, but it seems to be down now. i think it was a member here with a 1 ton and it was a great site for reference photos. any links would be great, mike in k.c.
  12. so the 60 truck rears still had the tapered axles?
  13. cost is important to me as well. i found a kit from aaj brakes for $280.00. includes the caliper brackets, bearings, bearing adaptors, seals, and a complete list of parts to obtain from your local parts houses. kit utilizes a rotor and caliper from an impala to retain the original size, 5x5" wheel bolt pattern. thanks, mike in k.c.
  14. thanks guys. guess i won't be haulin' my 58 plymmie 2dht home with it then, mike in k.c.
  15. i have a 49 dodge B1C. truck is in pretty good shape overall. i am wondering if this truck in good running order condition will pull with little effort, a 20' dual axle car hauler with a 4000# vehicle on it? i know brakes are a main concern, but i plan to do the aaj front disc conversion before actually pulling anything. being a 3/4 ton, with a granny low 4 spped set-up and what i believe to be 4.10:1 axle ratio, the math says it would be a piece of cake! any members actually use their truck "as" a truck around here? thanks, mike in k.c.
  16. i have not started bed disassembly on my 49 B1C bed yet, but i look at it every time i walk past it and for the life of me have not totally figured out in advance, the process for re-assembly. the wood connects where? the angled side pieces, the bed sides? the crossmembers? it all seems a little "screwed up"! i'll get it figured out when i really get down and dirty with it, but for now i'll just have to stay a little confused! mike in k.c.
  17. this may be helpful to you.

  19. beautiful truck. i would like to see more pics if you have any. mike in k.c.
  20. thanks guys, good info. i'll check out power wagons for the tag. i was really worried about that missing tag. i vacuumed out the bugs and what not, and did find some floor rust, but nothing to cry about. afterall, the drivers window has been down for years. the metal stuff is right up my alley, but the electrical, now that is going to be my co-workers job. i am thinking about doing a 12 volt dc with an alternator as hopefully my only hack-job on the truck. i just think it will be more reliable from day to day. afterall, i really want to make this a serious driver over the next few months. and slick it up over the next few years. i originally thought about a street rod, but decided this truck needed to stay close to factory looking and driving. i believe it would lose its charm if it was turned into a street rod. but these bad boys do look good street rodded though! keep the info flowing fellas, mike in k.c.
  21. the VIN plate is missing from my 49 B1C. i see that there is a duplicate stamping of the serial on the drivers side frame rail near the forward shackle perch. if i contact my local highway patrol and have the serial ran and it comes back clean, will this be enough to send away for a out of state registration ie, broadway title? does anyone duplicate the door jamb plate? this truck is neat as heck. i bought it from a co-worker and it was given to him from his girl friends dad. i doubt there is anything sinister goin' on, but i hope i can get it registered or i have a heck of a nice parts truck. even so, i know of a 49 B1B i can pick up on the cheap i could cull parts and a cab from if i need to. would this be a sin to swap cabs from a 1/2 ton to a 3/4 ton? thanks in advance, mike in k.c.
  22. this beautiful 49 B1C is going to be in the garage tonite! the tow operator should be here within an hour. i am pumped! more pics to follow, mike in k.c.
  23. are the brake spindles the same on the 48-53 trucks and the 46-54 dodge plymouth passenger cars?
  24. been doing a lot of searching in the pilothouse forums and wanted to know what the most common problems are with trucks of these years that have been sitting for awhile? the truck i am picking up either this week or next weekend is a 49 B1C. rust seems minimal, turns over, has compression, won't quite fire up. as far as hidden rust issues, where is a common place to find rust besides the obvious places? are these motors generally considered to survive well for long periods of neglect? what i want to do initially is get it to start and evaluate the oil pressure, engine temp and if it looks to be mechanically strong, then keep the mods to a minimum, but for sure convert to a straight up 12 DC system, with alternator, and complete re-wire then address the brakes and keep them drum non-power for now and make it a daily driver. over time do the cosmetics. does this seem within reality for a truck sitting for many years? i love the prospect of toolin' around my part of the country to and from work and trips to my local honey hole (salvage yard) in this truck. everything else that this truck needs can be had from roberts, steele rubber, and others that i have discovered from being a new member to the pilothouse forums. any heads up to what i can expect with regards to my 49 B1C would be greatly appreciated, mike in k.c.
  25. i have run into the left and right hand thread on my old chargers, and my current basement project a 58 plymouth plaza 2 door sedan. i didn't know that ole ma mopar messed with the buying public like that way back then though!!! are the mirror brackets really rare? are there some hard numbers on the production totals of this era trucks? thanks, mike in k.c.
