  1. Went over Saturday where I have my P11 to install some parts I have been working on at home, When I started to install the rebuilt carb I saw Gumk in there. Can I pour some gas or something in there and siphon it all out? I don't want to get that stuff in the cylinders. Thanks, Woody
  2. Well, my mechanic friend was a no show. Tried to start it again today. Starter would not turn the engine.Turned it by the fan blade and the rotor did not move. Then it would no longer turn at all. Timing Chain????
  3. Having a mechanic friend stop by tomorrow.
  4. Poured fresh gas in the carb
  5. Running great last winter, had her up to 60 mpr. Compression on # 1 is 90
  6. I have a 1950 DeSoto that wont start. Everything electrical is new. Thought the dist might be out 180 but it still wont start. I have spark from the coil, to the plugs but it still wont start.

  8. Recharged the battery and tested it with my meter. Key on 6.8 Volts.... Cranking 6.2 Volts. Pulled the coil wire and put the end near the block while helper turned the engine. No Spark from the Coil.
  9. Checked the coil on both sides as suggested. With points open I get a reading on my volt meter of 6+ volts . When I crank Tthe engine it turns a few tumes then acts like the battery is going down. I tried cranking the engine with one test lead on the Dist side of the distributor and grounding the other. The needle bounced back and forth between 2 and 4 volts then again acted like the battery was going down. This is frustrating and taking time away, what little I have, from working on the p11. Any other Ideas?
  10. I listed a pair of dome light switches on Ebay yesterday afternoon. As of a few minutes ago only three people had looked at them I just went into the catagory and they were not there. I go there every day looking for parts for the p11 and my DeSoto and have noticed some strange things lately. Here is an example... I just bought a new coil yesterday for the p11. When I noticed it there were only two days left to bid. I check every day both newly listed and ending soonest for at least 18 hours and never saw this coil until 24 hours before auction end. Woody
  11. I still cant get my 1950 DeSoto to start. I yanked the distributor and found a short in the wire running out of the side to the coil. Fixed that. Retested everything and all tested good on my meter. Everything in there has less than 200 miles on it. Put it back in the car and again... No Spark. I pulled the cap, turned the key on and opened the points and saw spark but still nothing going to the plugs. With the key on only the Bat side of the coil shows power. What am I doing wrong?? Woody
  12. Is it possable to bleed the MC by disonnecting each line and bleeding with the pedal?????? Woody
  13. Pulled the radio speaaker and grill out today, the radio was already out when I got it. The speaker is shot. That gave me more access to what I wanted to see. Lots of interesting stuff up there. I can get to everything I want to rewire except the ampmeter. Is there an easy way to remove it ??? Anyway, I have a better idea about what I am looking at and what to do next. I dont want to try to start it until I feel like it will go on the first try. I rebuilt the carb, pulled the distributor and replaced the points, rotor and condenser. I have a new cap, plugs and wires to put on it. I pulled the ignition switch to rewire it and replace the cylinder to key it. I am suspicious of the coil but dont know how to test it off the car. Too much to do and not enough time.... your help is always appreciated.... Thanks
  14. I need to do some re-wiring on my P11 and my manual calls for some special tools for removal. What can I use without messing something up
  15. Just a thought, My DeSoto did the same thing. Thought I wasnt going to make it home, check your vacuum advance. Woody
  16. Thanks, sent mike an email. Still need a good wiring diagram.
  17. It was a slotted screw and came out fairly easy. Two problems though. The cylinder will not come out of the casing. I know they are spring loaded but that little pin will not depress to let it pop out. Second, all the wires are rotten so I marked them with color tape and cut them, then disconnected the col to remove the whole thing. I will need to replace all those wires before attemping to start it. Also pulled the plug wire harness to install new wires. My repair manual arrived today but the wiring diagram is not that great. Anyone have a good one thy can post or email to me? Thanks, Woody
  18. Thanks, I found the hole. It was covered by a snap on cover. I popped the cover off and tried to peek inside. The light I used was dim bit it looked like a slotted screw holding it in. Tryed to get it out but the light was too big and in the way of the screwdriver. Went there on my lunch break so not enough time to finish. Will try tomorrow while have the weekend off. Woody
  19. How do you remove the ignition switch on a p11 ? I can see no screw to allow it to slip out. No keys came with the car. Thanks, Woody
  20. Went today to where my p11 is being kept (outdide by the way) and pulled the carb to bring it home for a rebuild. When I started taking it apart I found LIVE ants. It has been as low as 20 here in Hotlanta. Some were dead but many were still alive. How can that be??? Anyway, weather permitting, I will pull the distributor tomorrow to install new points, cap, rotor and condensor. Anyone have any part #s fot these?? Woody
  21. .....And I thought I was the only one that did that as a kid. I could name them all...... Woody
  22. I bouught it on ebay... Regards Woody
  23. The rocker I got on ebay for my 1950 Desoto arrived. I thought I was only getting the inner but this piece is complete with the outer as well.Has holes for the sill and outer trim too. What it cost was about the same as Whitney.I looked for the J curve mentioned in previous posts but I am not sure what that meant. Is that the part of the rocker that curves down and makes the outer below the doors? Can these be installed over the old ones? Thanks, Woody
  24. Hope this one posts.....Regards, Woody
