Great, maybe more people my age (around 20) will start driving these things or any old car and that way we wont get catagorized as ricer kids. When I used to go to shows and cruise in's I would walk around and get smart ass comments from older guys that there aren't any ricers here, etc etc (not all the time, just once in a blue moon). Normally I wouldn't say nothing but if they asked I always told them my list of old cars at home and they were surprised that I probably own more old cars than they've ever had in their lifetime. I can't help my addiction. I can say that recently I bought a (are you ready for this?) a HONDA Prelude! I had to get rid of my daily driver 85 C10 pickup because I couldn't afford the work I needed to do on it and the gas every week driving between NC and SC. Everyone was surprised because I've always said I will never buy an import. I've got to say though, it is VERY reliable, comfortable, the little 2.3L hauls butt and the gas milage is unreal. Well I'll shut up now.

It's been going great. It's helping to keep me even more busy than I really need to be but that's ok. Right now I am working on getting my 66 F100 finished. I took it apart to add power steering and now it opened up a new can of worms so now I need new brake lines, proportioning valve, etc. Once I get the power steering, power brakes and some rust issues taken care of then I will get the 46 going and start looking into the disk brake conversion for it as well.

Well guys, it's been a LONG time since I have been online and around these forums. Last time I talked to most of you guys was when the cruise in/show was here in Concord, North Carolina. In case you dont remember I am the 20 year old kid with the 3 window coupe. I have not had any time to work on ANY of my old cars lately but plan to get to them now. I was so busy with work full time, school full time and fire department. Now I am just working full time and fire department so without school I have more time to come on here and get working on my 46. I have not tried to even get the car running yet. I know it will run if I just spend a day or two on it and change out some wires, plugs, plug wires, new fuel tank and gas, oil, all fluids, etc. I should have done this a long time ago and never have but have been gathering parts for it (still need all new brakes or else it will sit here for a long time). Anyways, what have I missed here? How's everyone doing and how was everyone's Easter? I forgot a long of people's names now (horrible memory like an old person hehe) I just remember some of you by their cars. Don I think it is has the blue sedan, someone has the black 3 window coupe like mine and another guy with all the food in Concord with the woody car. Shawn-

Are you talking about the drop kit with drum brakes? If so, the reason I don't want to do it on stock drums is because I want to upgrade to disk brakes. Also changing brakes later on wont be so expensive and such a pain to do. Thought I might as well be a bit safer and easier at the same time. I have been away from these forums for quite some time and sorry for that guys. I have been so busy with a different job, side work, painting, college, etc and I haven't had any time for myself and my own vehicles. Now that christmas is over with and I spend all my money on everyone else, it's time I put money away for my Chrysler and get that running and brakes done on it by summer. I know I can get it running in a weekend but I wont be able to drive it because it needs all new brakes, lines, hoses, gas tank, tranny serviced, etc etc.

Oh yeah, lets hope she doesn't... She won't mind, I was only kidding. (wink wink). You guys got her hooked even more on these old cars though. Now SHE wants to build one.

That was nice of Bill to offer his shop and home up like that. He seems like a very cool and nice guy. I'd like to check that shop out one day. I'd love to have something like that to build motorcycles in or run a small auto body and paint shop out of...

For some reason those cars look familiar!.... Hmm I do know that the business coupe there in gloss black runs a 19.219 at the drag strip. Haha! Also I liked the engine setup on the local guys car from here in NC... Wasn't his name Ron? I am bad with names, like I told people from high school, the only way I was able to remember people were by their cars not their names.

So what your saying is that if I drive my Chrysler to Hooters then the girls might.... Oh MAN! I'm off to Hooters!

Thanks guys. I did meet Don and the others at the POC gathering. Very cool people and funny as heck. I actually learned a LOT last night just listening to them. I learned a few tricks about the hubs in the back (who was it that told me to jack the opposite side up to help the axle float and pull the drum off the taper, I am bad with names sorry), also gas tank stuff, brake information, oil usage, electrical, etc etc. BTW, I didn't get to make it up there today (Saturday) for the big judging and everything else because I had to work until 3:30 and just now got home and doing work for my business law class right now. The guys all offered to come pick up my car and help me out by getting it running, etc but since I had work that failed to happen. I wish I could have gone through with it and bring it up there, it would have been a great time. Oh well guys, maybe some other time, I learned a lot and enough to be able to get it going on my own I think though now. I really appreciate the offer though, I don't think I know anyone that would have offered something like that, especially someone I just knew over the internet and met in person for the first time last night. Good bunch of guys here and even though I don't have a Plymouth I plan to stick around. I do get people that tell me to put a 318 in it or a hemi, etc but I will keep the flathead for sure. I don't care if they are slow, they are something way different, they seem to last forever and easy to keep going and build. Simple is better for me.

HEY! There's Don's old blue car in the pic above! I know of it now because I just met everyone tonight here in Concord NC. Cool pictures. I love the old pictures from the drivers seat on a cruise and put them in black and white... Would make a cool wall picture.

I am the youngest here maybe? I am 20 years old. I've actually ALWAYS hung out with people two my age since I was probably 6. When I was about 6 or 7 I hung out with 15 to 20 year olds and now I hang out mostly with people in their mid 30's to their late 60's. Older people to me are funny to listen to and they have a lot of good stories to tell and learn from.

What time does this thing start tonight? I can be there around 7:30 or 8:00 if I get ready here in the next 30 minutes...
-
Don I can do that I think! I will get ready now and give you a call!

Well guy's I cannot make it on Saturday and I am guessing that is when most will be there but I CAN make it on Sunday at about 1:30 or so! Who will be there on Sunday? Also, can anyone give me directions from 485 off Providence road? I have NO CLUE what the name of the place is and where it's at. Hope I am not too late here and that everyone hasn't taken off and wont respond. Thanks guys and looking forward to meeting some of you.

Thanks Fred. Give me about a week or two to get back to you on that. I just started a new job and having to pay off a lot of money for school and the doctors from the past week of my back and neck injury. If I have the money I will get the contacts/info from you and look into it. The bumper guards or bumperettes as you call them are fine in the back, the front ones are bent and dinged up. Actually the frame is cracked in front of the crossmember on the passenger side as if maybe the car was hit slightly... The stainless trim on the car is in great shape besides one back fender peice is bent and has a kink and dents but I may practice some trim straightening and fix it but all the pot metal is pitted and looks like crap, the interior trim pieces are not too great either but will polish up OK with just some minor pitting. I really am just asking these questions to plan ahead and see what I am looking at here to get trim for this car. I may look into chroming, I know there are a few old guys around here that does it so maybe they will hook me a deal since I have a LOT of parts that need chroming for this car and my 48 Chevy and my 66 F100.
-
I think the whiskers or main bars are pot metal and chromed but the little squares part I THINK (I may be wrong here) is stainless. I need the chrome piece on the front of the hood and the first whisker or bar just below that. Mind is cracked and bent down a bit like a square crack. Could be fixed but I don't know. The whole grill is pitted bad like a bullet came OUT through it and left pieces sticking out not in like a cratter.

Thanks for the advice guys, and I know where your comming from. That is exactly what I plan to do. As for the threads I posted about high performance stuff I did note that I was just thinking and it's not something I am going to do right now. Like you said, I want to get it running and driving with minimal money and time and then add from there. As for the plug wires I will go with plain black one's like mentioned and the evr dry kit, that is a MUST. Then the brakes. Since the stockers are not even worth fixing and would cost just as much as the disk conversion most likely, I will spend the extra little money on the disk setup and new brakes lines (these stocks are RUSTED badly and I wont take a chance with brakes). The top of my list right now of things I need to have fixed before it will drive are these: 1.) Brakes (disk conversion and all new brake lines and hoses). 2.) Carburator rebuilt 3.) Engine, tranny and rear end fluids all changed. 4.) Air filter. 5.) Plugs, wires, distibutor tune up kit. 6.) Wiring harness (Needs all new wiring, I looked at it yesterday and it's a fire hazard as it sits now). 7.) All new bulbs and headlights. 8.) Wiper blades. 9.) All the hoses in the engine compartment meaning fuel, radiator hoses, heater hoses and the fan belt. 10.) Tires (it has old wide whites on it now with tubes and they hold air but the actual tires themselves have half in cracks in them. 11.) Battery Those are the main things on the list and I know I am missing a few things on there but those are the basics. I still need to save up the money over the next 3 or 4 months and then start with one thing at a time and get it done.

Actually I think THIS weekend is Lowes Motor Speedway Auto Fair but I cannot make it since I will be working. Other than that, no junk yards that I know of and I don't really know many people around here with old cars or parts. Even if I can find a straight bumper that needs chroming would be easier than trying to straighten these.
-
Yes they call the old Chevies Bomb's or bombas. www.chevybombs.com They know a lot about hydraulics, chroming and air bags.

Oldaddy, How much do you charge to do this? Do I send you my stock one I have on it now? What I want to do also is get it jet coated after this is done if possible (there is a local place here that does jet hot coating. Let me know on a price and I will let you know when I am ready to buy one and even a header setup. It may be about 3 months before I get to doing this. Thanks.

Thanks for that link. I never knew they sold those things! I always wondered where to get those bumpers. As far as putting them on the 46, I am going to skip and try to get the originals fixed but I will be sure to look into that when I need bumpers for my 48 Chevy. I think those are what I will use on the 48.

Has anyone here used the triple carb manifold setup on their 6 cylinder flathead? I see that a lot are doing the dual manifold with two 2 barrel Hollies but I also seen somewhere (gotta remember because I forgot now) that they also make triple carb setup and linkage. I am wondering if that would be way too much for this little 251 flathead of mine. It's not something I plan to do now since I dont even have this thing running but just dreaming and thinking that's all. I'd like to learn a lot more about these flathead 6's and how to fix them up to make a bit of HP. Thanks for any information! Shawn-

Wirth and Night Prowlers seem to have similar products and I hear both are fairly good. I've ordered from Night Prowlers before (54 Chevy taillights) and they were priced the same as most and shipping was good. Never dealt directly with Wirth though.

Ok well I didn't know that, thanks for warning me. I will go with plain black one's then. I went to NAPA to buy some and they didn't even have the correct ones. They gave me some from a 8 cylinder and the ends were not right and would NOT work.

I am THINKING (just thinking here lol) that I may go with the original cloth looking wiring. Same with my spark plug wires. The plug wires on the car now are eaten all the way through and no good. What do you guys think on cloth spark plug wires? Like I said, I want to get this thing just running down the road for now and then later I want to fix up the motor with high performance parts, change the motor over to a PCV setup (someone said to do this) and whatever else needs and should be done for more power and reliability. I am going to check the car over again today and make a list of things that it needs first.
