  1. I haven't been on P-15 D-24 for a couple of years since the '47 D-24 I had been working on hasn't been active for a while. A couple of changes to this car have been a new gas tank (Jeep will-fit) and some interior work. It's a Fluid Drive with a very sweet-running 230. It's a 4-door with sun visor and a quite driveable car at the moment except for a leaky fluid drive unit. I have gotten the parts list provided here for fixing the seal on the fluid drive, but now the question has come up whether to follow through with a re-build of that unit or to retrofit a standard 3-speed manual. Maybe this is covered in the tech section on this site, but I'd like to get some input first. 1. Is it best to look for an overdrive trans? Or is overdrive just a retrofit to the standard 3-speed? 2. What are the driveshaft mods needed for replacing a Fluid Drive trans with a 3-speed? 3. Does the addition of overdrive to the manual require other mods to the driveshaft? Or are all the driveshaft lengths the same? 4. Does the switch to manual require any linkage changes? I'd kind of like to keep the car as-is with Fluid Drive, since this is how it was equipped originally, and what the rear bumper says it is, but is it more realistic over the long run to replace the fluid drive? It works now, but leaks down to the 1/2 level mark due to the leaking seal, and at that level it works poorly. Proper fluid was added before the car was used (tractor fluid) but the seal continued to leak. The car had automatic trans fluid of unknown type in the drive when the car was purchased. Thanks for any help you can give. It's good to get back on this friendly car site!
  2. OK, then, whoever the powers that be, delete this one. I don't need double coverage of my ramblings.
  3. Paper was used for mouse nests, no doubt. I've had 'em rummage through tobacco pouches. I wonder if they prefer regular or menthol?
  4. Thanks for the response, Ralph. I'm not Jack and neither is the guy in the picture. The D24 is Jack. We're just wannabes. I'm not in the picture. That's Mark, whose harebrained idea of a field car turned into Jack, a running, driving, smoking, seatless wonder. Oh, there is an inner front seat spring you can sit on if you're careful. Mark's girlfriend lost part of her skirt (wish I'd been there) and I lost a piece of my jeans (wish I hadn't been there). Since I was last on this forum (I am NOT a newcomer!) the format has changed, so I don't know if much of the story of old Jack's comeback exists. We did get valuable, essential information from the readers here, and once I had compiled a "fix-it" book of repair sequences, part numbers, technical tips etc. We went ahead and more or less got it into a solid "2" car (or one-and-a-half). Might get a "3" out of it yet! It's really just for fun, but a real joy to work with-- sometimes, anyway.
  5. I'm not used to this forum layout, which is "new" to me for P15-D24 site. I misfired and started an extra thread with the same title as another one I started ("A Boy and His Dodge") I wanted to delete this one after receiving a reply on the other one. That's the problem. I can "edit" (which I'm doing now) but can't seem to find the "delete" button. Can we not delete our own posts? Or in this case, thread?
