  1. I've thought about doing the conversion over to the paper element, but the illustrations I've seen on here of the air intakes differ from mine. Not by much, but still different...
  2. Is there any way to replace that media? Do they sell it in the aftermarket?
  3. Last night, I decided to clean out and change the oil in the air filter. While I was at it, I sprayed some carburetor cleaner down and around the valve and the linkage (since I have this low rpm sputtering problem when I give it gas in low gear). With the air filter off, I started the truck and it ran great. No signs of the carburetor puttering, or wanting to stall. So I thought to myself, hey that's great! All it needed was a little cleaning and it's back up and running like a champ. A few minutes later, I assemble the air filter back on there and fill with oil up to the "Oil Level" mark. I start the truck up again and it's like nothing changed from when I started. It still struggles, sputters and gags when you first apply the gas in low gear. But, once you get up into 2nd and 3rd, there aren't any problems. So, I'm asking the guru's here what your thoughts on this problem might be. Thanks. Kevin
  4. Update: Thanks to redhed70 here for the original 16" wheels, I've had them sandblasted and painted "Dodge Truck Cream" (according to Mr. Don Bunn's paint code). The hardest part was finding a shop who uses DuPont paint around here to mix and spray them. So, thank you to all who helped me in getting this right! Kevin P.S. The 650-16 tires are on their way. I ordered the STA Super Traxion tires for the rear and the STA Super Transport for the fronts (including tubes for all four). Pictures will follow once I get everything put together...
  5. Here is your picture uploaded like you intended. Kevin
  6. When I upload pictures, I use another website (like Imageshack.us or Photobucket) to host the image. Once I upload the image into their system, they will provide a "Direct Link to Image" address which you can then copy and paste on this forum. When replying to a post, there is a little icon at the top of the shout box that looks like a square, with a mountain and sun. Once you click on that, you can paste the "Direct Link to Image" which you copied from your hosting site in that box. *When you host your images on the other site, be sure to resize the image so that it will work within the site rules. Please don't post a picture that is 2000x2000, but rather an image that is around 800x600 at the largest. It will make everyone's life easier. If you need any more help, just let me know. I'll try my best to walk you through it. Kevin
  7. So, did Dodge switch from a 16" wheel in '51 to a 15" wheel in '52? Either way, I like the looks of those tires!
  8. It has been converted over to a 12V system. The Ram on the hood is painted black, but I plan on picking up a chrome version of the Ram and replacing the ornament on there now. In the pictures I've posted, the truck has dual exhaust, but not anymore. About the second day of ownership, I took it down to my local muffler shop and had a single side exit pipe/muffler built. As far as pictures under the hood, it still has the original flathead 6 under there and it runs like a pickle seeder. I don't have any plans of replacing it with a V8, or anything like that. I just enjoy the truck too much the way it is to change anything on it. Thanks Kevin
  9. I'm just curious as to what types of tires you folks are running around here on your 1/2 tons. What brand, style and sizes did you go with? Any pictures of the tires on the truck? Thank you, Kevin
  10. I've been looking for this product for years!!! Every time I log in to this forum, I find something new that I need to buy. Finally, I can wrap the wires and have it look period correct. Thank you, Kevin
  11. WOW! That sure is purrrdy....
  12. When you say "push back," do you mean towards the door, or towards you? I got a screwdriver and a pry bar back behind it and pushed it towards me, but it felt like it was spring driven. I didn't see any type of pin there to punch out and I was afraid if pried too hard, it would break. I just don't see any way to get that darn thing off of there...
  13. I might be overlooking something extremely easy here, but this has me frustrated. I'm trying to take the door and window handles off from the inside, but I can't figure out how they detatch to allow the panel behind it to be removed. Help would be appreciated. Thank you, Kevin
  14. Thank you for the input! I hope you can understand the look that I'm going for. I think the modern all terrain/mud terrain tires would look a little out of place on the rears though. But, having never driven on bias ply tires, I wouldn't know how they ride, or handle. I guess I'll just keep looking until I find the right tire combo that suits my fancy... Thanks again fellas! Kevin
  15. My '51 Pilot-house was a present to myself for graduating college. I've always liked the looks of the older trucks. Such simple and purpose built vehicles that were made to last the test of time. Classic designs that are admired by people of all ages, from the older, to the small kids. EVERYONE loves old trucks! While driving out in the country to visit my grandparents, I happened to drive by this old farm house with this beautiful looking black truck sitting out front. I got to thinking about this truck for a day and I couldn't get it off my mind. I've always wanted an old truck to just tinker and have fun with. So the next day, I made a trip back out to that house. Stopped by to see exactly what the truck was and how much they were asking. To my surprise, it was a Dodge! Prior to that point, I had never seen a classic Dodge truck like that, only Chevrolet and Ford (maybe a few Internationals). Why standing there looking the truck over, an older gentleman came out of the front door to talk. Turns out, he was selling it because he was getting too old to keep it around. None of his children were interested in the truck and he wanted to sell it to someone who has a passion for them (as we all do). We talked for a few hours and lo and behold I ended taking it home with me. Price wise, let's just say I think I did alright... That was 3 years ago and I'm still as excited about that truck as I was the day I purchased it...
  16. Yes, something along the lines of that tire perhaps. Thanks Reg!
  17. For those of you who have replaced your tires (I've got a '51 B3B), what kind and where did you get them from? I'm thinking about putting a bias ply tire back on the truck when I get the original wheels done. Since the rubber today is much better than the rubber from many years ago, I figure the safety issue/ride quality should be a little higher. But, being a greenhorn at this, I could be way off on my assumption. Looking to go back to the original look of the truck and get tid of the modern wheel/tires I have on there now. I want to go with the "farm truck" look. Meaning, you have a more aggressive tread pattern in the rear pair for traction, with a "street friendly" front pair. Anyone have any good ideas where to pick these up? Again, my original spare tire (BFGoodrich) says it's a 6.50x16 tire. Any thoughts/comments/suggestions would be helpful before I decide to pull the trigger on these. Thank you, Kevin
  18. I guess I'd be considered one of the "young guys" in here at age 25. However, I've ALWAYS had a love for the classic vehicles. So much style, class and most important, SIMPLICITY!! It's almost impossible to work on vehicles these days without a computer telling you what's wrong and how to fix it. You should see the looks I get from folks driving down the road. Nothing like bringing a smile to their face when they see the truck. Then, turning that smile into a confused look when they see a 25 year old driving it.... It's just something about driving the ol' truck (aka Black Betty) that brings a feeling of simpler times, where the world didn't move near as fast....
  19. I'm really going for the original look. The wheels that are on there now are 15". I'm looking to get the original wheels, along with some nice tires (maybe bias ply, I don't know). As far as the tire size, I want to say 235/75R15, but I don't remember off the top of my head...
  20. Really? That's an interesting piece of information....
  21. Thank you for that information. I think I might try to do this.
  22. Very cool! I think that I might have to do this since mine doesn't even have the oil filter on there. Don't ask, I bought it that way. I can't, for the life of me, figure out why someone would take off the filter assembly and plug it up? Any way you can list the fittings and the location where the lines enter the block? I would appreciate it. Thank you, Kevin
  23. Now that I actually found the forum where the folks can answer my questions, I throw this one out there for ya... My '51 has the original flathead 6 under the hood, but it's missing a vital component....the oil filter assembly. Why it's not there is beyond me, but it has been removed and plugged. Why would anyone remove the oil filter? Anyways, is there a way that I can buy the parts to put this thing back together? Any hot rod tips to get another unit to work in there? As always, thanks for your information! Kevin
  24. I can't express how happy I am to finally find out the answer to this and more answers to questions I was about to ask! The knowledge and information on this forum is great! Thank you VERY much. Kevin BTW, here are a few pictures of my truck. You think the yellow wheels would look better?
  25. Ok, so in my never ending quest to find the OEM wheels for this truck (which I hope will end soon), I need to know the color of the wheels on the 1951 B3B. I've seen them painted in a lighter shade of yellow and I've also seen them painted the same color as the body. I'm sure someone on here has an idea of what color they were (and what size) from factory. Any information is much appreciated! *Note that I have the original spare wheel and tire on the back of the truck. The wheel measures 16" and the tire states 16x6.50. Oddly enough, the spare tire is painted black..... Thank you, Kevin
