  1. I ask hank! Many thanks Hank for all your good info and advice.
  2. as to price and what I can expect in repairs on her. Many thanks guys for all your help. Its obvious that you all really love these old ugly trucks. They do get more beautiful the more you look at them though. Am I allowed to download more pics?
  3. The seller wants to get $5k out of the truck. He says the engine, tranny, generator and starter were all rebuilt but he doesn't know when exactly. He has owned it for about 5 years. The right rear fender is cracked and appears loosely attached to the bed. He denies any accidents or frame damage. He says the cab was sanded and painted inside and out by a very experienced painter. The bed has a metal cover over the old floorboards. Can you give me your thoughts on what you think she's worth? Many thanks for your help. Will send pics.
  4. The seller of the truck assures me that the truck doesn't leak or burn oil. He states that after running the engine there are 5-6 drops of oil on the ground due to the "normal" operation of the crankcase valve? Also there is some smoking if the choke is set too high but it stops after extra fuel is burned off. Other problems include non-functioning fuel guage & temp guage. How bad are these problems to correct? Thanks.
  5. I'm negotiating to purchase a 49 pickup that the owner says was running rough recently so he disassembled the carb and said that the float was full of gas. He drilled a hole in the float to drain the gas and said it ran well after that. He wants to replace the float but says he's having trouble finding the part. Can you comment on the proper repair that should be done in this case, and the best place to find the parts? thank you.

  7. What would you suggest I do at this point? - Should I insist that the seller correct the title before the sale can take place?
  8. The truck was an old Cal Trans vehicle that ended up in Nevada so it'll be coming back home to California. It doesn't sound like the mismatched #'s will be a big problem when I go to register it. Right now the engine is frozen from sittin' around too long (six years) according to the owner.
  9. The title to the 49 one ton Nevada truck matches the license plate but not the engine. How much of a problem is this for me here in California?
  10. Are the bolt on holes the same? Do I need to make any modifications at all?
  11. I found a nice '49 rust free one ton with a seized engine. Can the cab from the one ton be easily bolted onto a 1/2 ton frame? thanks.
  12. Is there a pilot house member willing to check out a 49 one ton for me? I'd like to know if you think its worth it for me to fly up there and check 'er out. The truck is about 50 miles from Reno. Many thanks.
  13. Your right about my past Merle...It included a gray pilothouse Dodge that was owned by my grandfather. That truck was his ride and I'll always remember grandpa and the truck. Me and my brother Mike used to love riding in the back especially when Grandma was on board. I know he's not here anymore but when I look at these trucks I get a warm feeling inside. The search for the right truck has become somewhat of an obsession I'm afraid..its probably a bit pathologic but what the hey..I don't give a crap...I want my Dodge truck! Grandpa became a peddler of fruit and vegetables which he sold off of his 36 or 37 dodge dually. I have pics of both trucks. I really appreciate all of you guys helping me out with my quest to relive a precious part of my past. These are the coolest, most beautiful, as well as masculine trucks ever built. I don't care if it has compound low, double clutch or not..its all good.
  14. Way cool pictures, very cool hair and haircut! Nice blue dodge too.
  15. I think grey is the best color for these trucks.
  16. Bob, do you have a contact # with the guy in San Jose, I can't get an answer on email? thanks, Mario
  17. Ya, i like that red one. Do you know anyone in the bay area who might want to check it out with me.
  18. thanks for your helpful reply..I should hire you to help me buy the right one.
  19. Ya I know, I remember the sound of grandpa shifting the old gray beauty..
  20. what's a crash box? a gear grinder?
  21. thanks Reg, a little too fancy for me...
  22. Thanks Bob, what's a "ganning" gear tranny?
