  1. Thanks Skip, That is exactly what I needed to see. I have the exact pump. With those pics I now understand (the light bulb went on).
  2. I understand now about the top fitting and it being tapped for the heater line. How many holes should the backing plate have? I have the one for the distribution tube and then there is one in the middle. Should there be another one?
  3. I understand that the pumps are pretty much the same. Do you have a pic of a backing plate for my 51. The new water pump that I have has the external bypass hole up top and the two bolt hole for it.
  4. Ok, I have been calling parts stores for a water pump for my 48 plymouth that now has a 51 motor in it. I am totally confused. Does anyone have pics of a internal and external bypass water pump, so I can get a hold on what the blazes is going on. I found something on this web site about the difference, but the pics did not come up. I think the backing plate is different and the top were the external bypass went is either not there or different. HELP!!!!!!
  5. I am putting a 51 plymouth motor in my 48 2 door sedan. The new motor needed a water pump. I ordered a water pump for a 51 plymouth and when I got it, it looked just like the water pump from my 48. It looks like it has the external bypass the comes out from the top of the pump. Do I just block it off or is this the wrong pump? (I hope I am making sense).
  6. I am going to be installing a motor in my 48 plymouth. I would like it to look as stock as possible. What is a decent silver ratttle can paint I can use on the block an various parts to the motor. What is the best way to prep the motor (it's a motor that was pulled from another car) and clean it up before paint.
  7. You can buy a modern dual stage master that is a bolt up application for around $250.00. It is on my 48 and is really slick.
