  1. Hey guys, thanks. The repair is esentially the area which holds the gasket. It is like a tray within the tray. The part which the drain line attaches to. So far i have laid out the cuts i am intending to make, & prepping the new replacement. Would like to get this going before the snow starts rollin in. Ill post results. Thanks again. Russ
  2. Hello, If this has been previously posted, please forgive me but I cannot find it. That said, I wish to repair the cowl area on my 46 plymouth bus. coupe. The original vent and corresponding drip collector has rotted out. I was able to procure a suitable replacement from a donor car over this past summer. Question: will it be necessary to brace the firewall or any other area on my car, before making the cuts to removing the offending part? Is this a stressed part which I should expect to move? This is a running and driving car, which I am intending to repair as it sits in the garage. Any thoughts, or input ? Thanks, Russ
  3. Thankyou for the replies. Im going to work on the wiper assemblies during the cold months. Was hoping there was a particular part number I could purchase, but I realize this is not chevy or ford. HA HA . Ill get creative. Thanks again. Russ
  4. Guys, Would anyone know where to get the bushings for the wipers. If i am looking at this correctly, where the drive arms attach to the wipers themselves there appears to be space which should be taken up with some sort of bushing. I recently climbed under the dash to remove the assembly ( to allow access for cowl repairs) and discovered this sloppy connection, and wondered how long the wipers have been in service in this state. Any thoughts or suggestions? If parts are not available , I may be able to fabricate something. Thanks, Russ.
  5. Guys doing body work on my 46 plym. What is the best way to fill pitting in the metal? There are spots on the body that have been exposed for a long time, but are not rusted through, just deeply pitted. Thanks for any help, Russ.
  6. Hello, Has anyone tried a repair on the vent area? I have got a leak in the vent area, and upon closer examination i discovered that there are holes rotted beneath where the rubber gasket is installed. If i make a support beneath the cowl from the inside I was thinking i could flow some lead into the the area. Any ideas? Btw, the left drip rail is completely rotted off. Anyone tackle this repair? Otherwise the body is rust free. Thanks for ideas
  7. Falcon, could you use a dremel tool to make the cuts? Ive got an old one ,and the available assorted cutting & grinding bits available is remarkable.
  8. Hi Hey thank-you for the quick response . Im going to take a look and see if any of the tell tale signs are present. i dont believe there was ever one present, as I surely wouldnt have removed it. I had the nose off for a couple of seasons to upgrade the motor and suspension, next thing you know the nose has taken a tweak and just does not sit the same as the factory install. Thanks again ,Russ
  9. Gentlemen, I wonder if anyone could please tell me if there is supposed to be a support under the hood, mounted to the hood, between the hinges? This would be up against the cowl . I would imagine it would be a stamping contoured to the hood giving support and allowing for proper squareness, as it were. Im having a heck of a time getting the nose and associated sheetmetal to line up properly, wondering if this might be part of the problem, Thanks Russ
  10. well now, im certainly not a young guy at 50, i tell the wife im only middle age now and she rolls her eyes. i bought my p 15 when i was 19, its the second car ive owned and of course a keeper. I consider myself lucky to have held on to it for 30 plus years now, even during the worst of times i didnt part with it ! most people i know dont get it. as in why would you want an OLD car? but take it anywhere and it upstages just about anything.
  11. Guys did my 46 plymouth business coupe originally come equiped with a rear sway bar? I am getting excessive rear body roll even though the springs are good and shocks are not leaking and still dampen well. Any ideas? Thanks for any advice Russ
  12. 149.5 from croton ny , im thinking i might take the car for a cruise
  13. Hi, I rewired using EZ-wiring co. basic kit with spare circuts to add creature comforts down the road. (a/c, power windows, antenna, etc.) I also added a GM one wire alternator. For gauges, i went aftermarket so i cannot help you there. I do miss the original flavor of the factory set up. If you look in the speedway catalog you will see some voltage reducers to address dropping from 12v to 6 v. Russ
  14. I like the color alot ! I think its got an old time feel. My 46 was at one time black, and currently my daily driver is black, however black is too much trouble. I agree with the above post, color always draws more attention.
  15. After earning my airframe and powerplant tickets I worked for Continental and TWA airlines, then took a 5 year detour working for Bendix brake. Now working as a NYC elevator service tech, which if the economy allows, I hope to stay with for another 15 years or so.
