  1. I don't have my B 1/2 ton truck in my garage yet but conversion to 12V negative ground is something I want to do once it is here. Forgive my noobiness but right now I'm just gathering information to get a shopping list going: Wouldn't the starter need to change as well? Besides it being rated for 6V, since it was wired to a positive ground, wouldn't it turn the wrong way when one switches to a negative ground? Is it as simple as just changing to a proper alternator, changing the battery to a 12V variety, along with its polarity and changing all the bulbs?
  2. Those look really nice done like that. What's the size? I'm missing one and would like to get a replacement.. (seen vintage hubcaps but they only tend to give sizes)
  3. That makes good sense. Thank you for that background information. I'll get a replacement lock for the passenger side only. I'll leave the driver's side stock - if people ask, I can now tell them what the story is. .
  4. I just bought a 52 1/2 ton and it doesn't appear to have door locks: The driver's side never appeared to have one and the passenger side just has a hole for one, with its lock missing. Is that original? If so, could I just find a door lock and get it to work in an originally lock-less door?
  5. Thanks again for the welcomes. Once I get the truck, I'll be sure to post more pictures of the progress. Here's one of the front - nothing new to you guys, no doubt - but I like the gnarliness of the search light. We'll have to meet up sometime, Mario, and grab some lunch sometime - perhaps after I get my truck. We must be within less than 10 miles of eachother. Home depot in Fairfield is about 6 minutes away from me.
  6. Thanks for the welcome and advice. I've been reading through the forum over the last couple of days - man, there's a lot of stuff here! I'm not looking to make the truck fly but to be able to roll at 60 would be a nice thing. I'm on the Fairfield/Bridgeport line, just off Rt59, one street into Bpt, in the Brooklawn section. We'll have to coordinate what carshows we're going to visit in the spring- it would be fun to meet up sometime with those close. Mario, we may be within miles of each other. I don't remember seeing your truck around, though.
  7. Hey all, name is Rem and am new to this forum. I'm located in CT. I've been into VW bugs for a while but always wanted a 50 vintage truck. Over the weekend I finally scored and bought a 52 1/2 ton truck through a friend of mine in Idaho: It being 2400 miles away, it will take a little while before it is in my driveway and can't wait to get my hands on it. Until then, I'm thinking about what needs to be done first: It is a farm truck so the gearing will only let the truck get up to 45. I understand I could swap in the rear differential from a more modern truck to change that. What manufacturer's diffs will work for me (without mods, if possible)? TIA.
