  1. Thank you Brent for raking the time to reply. When you flush, you just stick a garden hose in that hole you show in the pic? Where are those plugs in relation to the motor? Thanks again
  2. Howdy! This week is hot August nights. I was cruising around and found not one dodge pickup truck. Every Truck was ford chevy/gmc. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed. 1, because no flippin dodges. 2, most of the other trucks were modified. Makes me want to get my truck running and take it to these shows. Hope you all are having a good day.
  3. Hello Gentlemen, Between working 70 hours a week and doing laundry, I finally managed get the bolts cut off of the exhaust manifold. Pulled the manifolds off to expose the valve case. Few Questions. The manifolds can be resurfaced/ reused? What is the best approach when starting with the cooling system? Where can I find a cover for my dodge, that is reasonably priced? Thanks
  4. Hello Gentlemen. Today I attempted to remove the manifolds. I was semi successful in removing all bolts, accept the exhaust manifold part that attaches I believe to the exhaust pipe? These were a pain. Either I need a air gun, or us a wrench on the bottom, spin it till the wrench hits the block and try to screw from the top, or they are just going to snap. Also I'm concerned why these bolts look the way they do. Is there a bunch of corroded metal in my manifold bolt holes? Hope this isn't too big of an issue.
  5. That is one beautiful ride. Very impressed
  6. Today I cleaned the top of the block. Got as much carbon I could off the top and on the cylinder walls. Still would like to do one more scrape and scrub. Looks a lot better. Next step is to take the manifold off and clean the valve case.
  7. Something like this, Merle? Apply with spray bottle? Thanks again for your help
  8. What is the best product to clean out the valve case? Brake cleaner? Thanks
  9. Can someone please explain what he means?
  10. Howdy Gents. Today I was going to pull my manifold apart. But I was experiencing rain. So I decided to take the inner panel over the front wheel off to get better access to my manifold and valve case. Small steps. I love working on this truck. Gives me a better understanding on what goes on under the hood. Still a greenhorn when it comes to mechanics.
  11. Thanks. I feel the truck needs to be rescued. I like that it has all the hardware. I was thinking of using it for parts. A part of me feels bad taking parts off a great truck to make mine better. I'm pretty close to buying it. It has been there for a while . Not in a big hurry.
  12. Thanks Brent! My next move is taking the manifold off and getting into the valve case. See what kind of goodies are inside. Are the valves hard to remove and clean? I just want to make sure they are closing properly and won't get stuck in the future. The six pictures with the piston are all each individual one. I see some horizontal marks on one of the pictures. Is that a big deal? Thank for any advice
  13. Hello Gents, Today after work I decided to pull the head off and see all the goodies. Engine is free, piston move, one valve was stuck, I got it unstuck and moving. So now all valves move. My next move is to take off the manifolds and get into the valve covers for some cleanin. I assume if I don't at least address the really stuck valve it may become stuck again. Anyone see anything that pops out at them? Can the copper gasket be used again?
  14. I never knew discussing oil brand has been known to break up the thanksgiving family dinner. LoL. Thanks for the info
  15. That's what I was thinking Ed. Id like to keep it original as possible and seek out a usable one and not do a paper filter. Know where to source that kind of part? Thanks
  16. Ok. Finally got my oil bath filter apart. That felt great. However, my oil bath looks like a rust bath. I wasn't aware there was a filter component on the upper compartment. The inner part looks corroded, almost unsalavagable. The lower part looks like it could be cleaned up. What do you guys think? Also still looking for a good brand of motor oil. Thanks
  17. Doh! I thought that big tube was a vent of some sort. Also any particular brand of 10w-40 that is good for these trucks? Thanks for the info
