bob1949b Posted July 27, 2008 Report Posted July 27, 2008 Could anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? I have been trying to install my transmission tonight for the past 2 hours and cant sem to get the trans to go all the way in flush with the bell housing. I have taken it in and out about a thousand times ( maybe only one hundred times ) but it wont go in. I am ready to take the BFH to it. Here is a pic of how far it goes in. Thanks... Bob Quote
Tom Skinner Posted July 27, 2008 Report Posted July 27, 2008 Dear Bob, Enough wit dat Big Fat Hammer already yet! When your close get someone to push in the clutch pedal, and she will drop right in. The Tip of the Trans Shaft will drop into the Pilot Bushing. You are probably being held off/out by 3/4" to 7/8" right? Thats the ticket. Later Gator, In da Movies! Tom Quote
bkahler Posted July 27, 2008 Report Posted July 27, 2008 Most likely cause is the clutch disc is not centered on the flywheel. If its not centered the input shaft of the transmission won't mate up with the pilot bushing hole in the flywheel. Recenter your clutch disc and you should be good to go. Good luck! Brad Quote
MBF Posted July 27, 2008 Report Posted July 27, 2008 What they said. Unless you changed transmissions w a different input shaft on the new one-sounds like a clutch alignment problem with the disc not being centered on the flywheel. It'll feel real good when she finally drops in and you can snug up the bolts. Mike Quote
bob1949b Posted July 28, 2008 Author Report Posted July 28, 2008 Thanks guys for the advice. I dont know what I would do without this forum! Tom was right. After work today I went out to the garage and tried what he said by pushing the clutch in , and like magic it slipped right in! Next time I'll ask before I spend a couple hours trying to figure something out. I just want to try to do it on my own without asking questions all the time. Thanks again.... Bob Quote
old woolie Posted July 28, 2008 Report Posted July 28, 2008 Asking questions is one of the best ways to gain knowledge. Everything is easy if you know how to do it. Quote
