claybill Posted June 15, 2008 Report Posted June 15, 2008 story...yesterday i took a 200 mile drive with my 'hot' 41 coupe! feelin' goooood! oh oh. i hear a ratatatat..like a grinding for 10 seconds..i pulled over, it stopped. so, i continued..all ok for the rest of the day..thought maybe the starter gear engaged for a second. i got home and did my overall check..AND one aircleaner(dual carbs) was floating about. the speed nut holding the fram foam a/c to carb body had worked loose,,AND fallen into the intake and...ohoooooh! thats what that noise probably was this morning. do you think? is it over? do i take carb off and look inside manifold? do i compression test? or is all that checking in vain because what is , is. and continue driving? claybill. martybose Posted June 15, 2008 Report Posted June 15, 2008 I'd do a compression test, just to see if any of the valves got bent while it was passing through, otherwise I'd just keep on driving ...... Marty Quote
Lou Earle Posted June 15, 2008 Report Posted June 15, 2008 I had Nut fall into head area thru plug hole. I put magnet down it no luck . My late friend said to remove all plugs and crank it some - got it out - but came out like rocket and had dent in the hood!! better than hole in piston/. I would probably take carb off and rn magnet around some - more than likely it was sucked in the center passageway. I might still be just laying in there. Also I have heard of nuts washers etc just disintegrating in the heat and no problems- but I would try for a lucky catch with a magnet. Lou Quote
FMSPEED49 Posted June 16, 2008 Report Posted June 16, 2008 I'd pull the head faster than I can type this. Quote
