FargoPanel Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 Howdy....I am in the process of removing the doors on my panel, and can't see an easy/obvious way to take the little stopper arm off. It looks as though there is a rubber grommet affair on the end inside the door. Any tricks to getting these things off? Thanks in advance....D. Quote
Guest Dave Claussen Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 I had the same problem but I don't know whether you would want to use my solution. I took my handy grinder/Dremmel tool and a very small grinding wheel and carefully ground the head off the rivet. I made a replacement rivet that is threaded so I can assemble and disassemble it if the need ever arises. I'm not sure you want to go that route, it is a little extreme but I was desperate. Quote
FargoPanel Posted December 6, 2006 Author Report Posted December 6, 2006 Thanks for the reply....I had thought of grinding the rivet too......it may be the only solution....I thought maybe the rubber end inside the door could come off....but it's not looking like it. Thanks again....D. Quote
Guest Dave Claussen Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 Even after I got the stop out I couldn't see any way to get it off without going the "destructive" method. They must have assemble it in two pieces at the factory and riveted it into the door. I can't think of any other way they could have done it. The whole problem made me scratch my head for several hours. Finally I just got frustrated with the whole thing and got out the Dremmel. Then I had to make the replacement fastener, but that was not as hard as I anticipated. Necessity is the mother of Invention. Quote
bach4660 Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 always glad to read other peoples plight, I had the samething, finally ground of the rivet, removed the door, then went back to re-look at still can't figure it out. My 2 cents is to grind. Quote
anthonyb Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 Once the rivet is ground off, you should be able to push the arm into the door and take it out through the panel on the door itself. At least, that's how it worked on my 52. Quote
Guest Dave Claussen Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 A chinese finger pull and Catch 22 keeps coming to mind. Maybe it was those engineer's way of telling us "Don't take that door off!" Quote
