Inspecting Front End Parts??

Recommended Posts

Hi all, what is the best method for checking out the front end, I have inspected the tie rod ends, king pins, springs etc.

The tie rod ends seem okay, not sloppy, with very little play, the king pins have a slight amount of play, the springs are in good shape, the shocks are new.

What should I look for, what have most done, should everything be replaced or can these parts be good for a lot of miles...........Thanx Fred

As you know best thing is always replace all the old parts. But since I never do the best thing I check like you did to see if anything is real loose also go by how it drives if it feel tight you should be ok.

My other thing is that if I decide one part of the suspension needs to be replaced that I would do the whole section. If the king pins shocks and springs are ok you and I feel a tire rod is bad the I would replaced all parts connected to that part on both sides.

These two books give some info. The second one tells how to check the control arms. The kingpins are easy to check leaving the tie rod ends, which if in doubt replace as they are cheap and easy to replace.

This one gives alignment specs
