alanhaley Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 My daughter and I are restoring a 1950 one ton (I dont know the exact model because I cant find the serial number on the frame). I bought a parts truck to go with it. All the rims, however, are in very rough condition and are mismatched, and they take a 17.5 inch tire. The dealers in my area (central maine) all tell me that they cant get this size tire and in any event I would like to get better rims. Trouble is, I cant find anything that will fit. It appears to be an eight lug, 7.25 inch lug bolt configuration with a very large center hole. Does anyone know another vehicle that takes this size? How have other people solved this problem? I'm a wicked slow thinker, and my daughter wants to drive this truck to her graduation in June, you can see the pressure I'm under. Quote
townwagon Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 I wonder what axles your truck has, or if you actually have a 1950 1 ton. The 1941-60 1 tons all have 6 bolt axles, and up until 1953 or so almost all of them had 16 inch rims. The 17.5 inch 6 bolt tubeless rim was not used until 1957 I think. Dodge did not use 8 bolt rims until 1959, and then only on the 1/2 ton 4wd and the 3/4 ton 2wd. Starting in 1961 Dodge used the 8 bolt rims on the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton 4wd plus the 3/4 ton 2wd. The 1 ton Dodges did not use a 8 bolt rim until 1969. So if you have 8 bolt axles on a 2wd truck they have to be from: 1959 and newer 3/4 ton 1969 and newer 1 ton As for the 8 bolt 17.5 inch rims, I think those were only used in 1959-60. They are not a very common rim. The 17.5 inch 6 bolt rim was used from 1957-60 at least and is much more common. Where did you look for your serial number? Do you have any pictures you can E-mail of your truck? Are there any features on it that you can describe to help ID it? I am happy to help as much as I can in figuring out what you have, but currently nothing you describe makes any sense. Eric Quote
oldmopar Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 Universal tire in PA has a 17.5 tire see link below http://www.universaltire.com/cart.php?target=product&product_id=24927&substring=8-17.5 Quote
alanhaley Posted January 2, 2008 Author Report Posted January 2, 2008 Your dead right - I was not thinking when I posted. The 87 my wife drives has the 8 bolt rims, the 51 I am working on has 6 bolt, 7 1/4 inch pattern. It presently has what looks to be forage wheels and tires on it, the parts truck i bought had standard rims but they were the 17.5 inch ones and none of them really match. You mentioned that this year model usually had 6 bolt 16 inch rims - any place on line you can think of to buy them? Pictures will be on the way. Quote
Dale Uhrich Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 I would have some of these rims but I'm in snowy n.d. Quote
Guest Kuster13 Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 the only place that I have found is Stockton Wheel and they quoted $175 per. They are 16x6 tubeless dually rim with a 6 x 7 1/4 bolt pattern. Tom Quote
