65bcoda Posted March 29 Report Posted March 29 Good day Gents, I travel for work a lot and I know we have members across the country, I am currently in Des Moines IA and have this weekend free / 3/30 - 31. I am looking for a salvage yard with old iron in it to pass the time and look for some small items. Normally if I am in a small town I just go to a local watering hole and can usually strike up a conversation and find out where the local yards are that have the old stuff. or the farmer with a field.of dreams. I already know about French Lake / Wildcat etc, just looking for something local if we have any members near Des Moines IA, I am willing to travel up to 80-100 miles to pass the time. Quote
Ron175 Posted March 29 Report Posted March 29 This book is over 30 years old and it’s likely that a lot of these yards don’t exist anymore but I’ve attached those listed for Iowa. Might be worth a Google search to see if any are still in business…. Quote
iowa51 Posted March 29 Report Posted March 29 Might be a few miles out of your upper mileage range but Ron's Auto Salvage outside of Allison IA has quite of a selection of old cars and pickups from the 1940s-1980s. 24613 Butler Center Rd, Allison, IA 50602 (319) 267-2871 Has a Facebook page but the website listed is the wrong one. Call before you go as he is an older guy and semi-retired. Quote
