It's that time of year again when you really need a deal on disc brakes, and I need Christmas cash.............I will sell my car or truck kits for $200 including shipping to lower 48 addresses through the end of December this year. My kits will fit from mid 30s to later 50s Dodge/Plymouth trucks, and the mid 30s to mid 50s Plymouth cars. The kits can be installed on Dodge, DeSoto, and Chrysler cars using Plymouth spindles. If you cannot or do not want to do your own drilling and tapping I can do that for you for $80 for the four pieces, two spindles and two steering arms, including shipping as above. Disc kits are normally $225, and the drilling/tapping is $100, so you could save between $25 and $45 on the deal. That's enough to buy your sweety breakfast, or even lunch! Step right up and make yourself a deal.

Guys, please forgive another attmempt at shameless self-promotion. You know you want disc brakes for Christmas, and I need you to want them.....send me a note, buy a set!

Charlie,

I haven't corrected my mismatched brakes yet on Ole Yeller. You may recall that my stock front brakes are working much better than the rear brakes in a 66 T-Bird rear end. The T-Bird has much larger shoes and much smaller wheel cylinders so that the rear brakes aren't doing much work.

How would your kit fix my particular problem?

Posted

Reg, I would install my disc brake kit up front, and a mopar 8 3/4 rear end.... or install discs on the T-bird rear end. If you are running drums on all four corners I'd try to get wheel cylinders of similar size on each wheel. Personally I go discs whenever and wherever possible. Drums are evil.

Well, that's what I've been wondering about lately.......if a similar vintage Ford wheel cylinder from a non power brake system would have a larger bore cylinder. Anybody out there have a Ford parts book that would show a part number for a non power brake system rear wheel cylinder on a 66 Ford?

PS....Anyway....I'd like to order a disc kit for my 49 Suburban. Can you send me a PayPal invoice?

well i got my kit a few weeks ago..and i'm still trying to locate the rest of parts needed...I've called around my local parts stores and none of them have any of the parts that it calls for...they say they've never heard of those part numbers.(really wish i had more interchange part numbers so i had a wider variety to pick from)..so i'm guessing i need to find them online? Any one else order a kit and have more than just 1 part number for each part I would appreciate them letting us in on it...

thx

BouncyB, I've bought all the needed parts for under $200 locally. I've also bought them for nearly $400 at my local NAPA. It all depends on what level of quality and what sales you find.

Chucky 07, If you are having problems finding parts, why didn't you email me? I've sold these kits to nearly every state, and overseas and so far everybody has managed to find the parts and install the kits. What specifically can you not find? I'll find it for you. Reply here, or email me directly.

Chuck,

I ordered my brake kit from another source (Olddaddy wasn't in full swing then). At any rate, I could have bought a kit like Olddaddy's and then the additional parts locally. I chose to go with a complete kit though for convenience. However, with the instructions I did get part numbers for the parts. Only one part number for each part though so when I need new parts down the road I can buy them locally. Usually, that's all you need is one part number for a part. All of the parts are available locally except for the basic kit. Any parts store should be able to cross reference those part numbers to their own part numbers. As Olddaddy mentioned, everyone else has been able to get them without a problem. Plydo's system is about the same as Olddaddy's except higher priced and everyone gets those extra parts locally too. If your parts store can't cross reference parts, they're not a very good parts store.

appreciate fast reply..well we have no "Discount Advance auto parts where i live or within 100 miles..so the parts list you gave me is kinda worthless...i tried to order from Kragen (one of my local auto parts stores) they were No help whatsoever *(kids)....I was able to obtain some of the brgs and seaLS with the napa numbers from napa...but when i gave napa the discount numbers for the Rotors and Calipers they scratched their heads...they said it sounded like it was from a 70's dodge aspen..but they needed to know exactly what make and model aspen..wagon..engine size etc...SO AT THIS POINT IN MY PARTS SEARCH I SAID "&%$# it" and quit for now...Any help would be appreciated...especially with the ROTORS AND CALIPERS...

i think you're right about my parts stores not being very good..

I bought my parts locally. They are VERY common parts that ALL parts stores will have on the shelf at reasonable prices.

You have to avoid the chain stores with 17 year old girls behind the counter, though. (although the parts are common enough even THEY could get them for you)

HEY PAT....CARE TO PASS ALONG THE PARTS NUMBERS????MAYBE YOU COULD HELP OUT SOME POEPLE WITH THAT INFORMATION...EXACT NUMBERS AND PARTS PLEASE....AND NOT AN DISCOUNT/ADVANCE NUMBER IF YOU CAN..THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Someone might jump in here on the Aspen/Volare rotors and calipers. However, I believe they all used the same size, regardless of which model and engine. Again, not 100% sure, but believe that's true.

My brake kit uses GM brake calipers and bearings along with a custom rotor. However, the GM brake calipers and bearings are the same as used on all 79/80 Firebirds and Camero's, regardless of engine size. The same calipers are also used on 90's GMC and Chevy Vans.

Again, not sure about the bearings, but it would seem if you are using Aspen/Volare rotors, you would also use the same bearings that go with that rotor.

Well, I'm in Canada so not sure how much help it would be.

I had Charlies parts list with me when I went to the local, small, Mom and Pop parts store and the "old" guy took it with him, made one round of the shelves and had all the parts.

The rotors ARE Volare V8 1978, and the calipers are mid size GM early 80's Pontiac Grand Prix for example.

I NEVER use the big chain stores.

Any GOOD partsman can take Charlies list and get you everything on it. It's all stocked stuff.

Sorry, I can't help any further. I can't understand why they can't help you, it's their business to know these numbers or at least be able to cross them.

Oh, ya, for a male, it's Paddy, not Patty:D

well you should feel so privledged as to live in Canada where the parts people are so knowledgable..i live in a rat hole desert town southwest...and there are no "mom and pop" parts stores...

As a matter of fact, I DO feel priveledged to live here, although I question my sanity on sub-zero freezing days like today. 1 degree F at 3pm!!

If I was closer, I would gather everything up for you and send it...maybe someone closer could help you out.

One of the difficulties of producing "universal" parts kits for this type conversion is you cannot gauge the level of ability of the people buying the kit. I have to assume that they have enough ability to undertake the project and I try to make the parts, instructions and parts list as simple as possible to prevent problems. This string of posts shows that is not possible. I've sold over 300 of these kits over the past ten years. I have talked people through the install when they were too lazy, or too inexperienced to do the conversion. I've done the drilling and tapping as well as assembly for others. I've sold these kits in nearly every state of the union and a number of foreigh countries. I've never had to refund the purchase of a kit becuase parts were not available or the kit could not be installed. In fact I have only taken one kit back in ten years and that was simply becuase I was tired of the guys whining, not because the parts were not available or the kit was not useable for the intended vehicle. It's easy to jump on a form and post about how something is missing, or does not work. The simple truth is that it's a damn good kit that I stand behind and does what it is sold to do. I cannot control the ability of the installer or the quality of the parts stores where they shop.

Here is the complete parts list for the 35-56 truck kit, which also fits mid 30s to early 40s Mopar cars.

1. Calipers GM Advance #184020/21, Napa #242-2028/29

2. Pads Advance #MKD52 Napa TS728AM

3. Rotors Advance #YH141145 Napa 4885566

4. Caliper bolts Napa #82205

6. Outer wheel brgs Napa #BR2

8. Grease caps Napa 730-2436

9. Wheel nuts Napa 641-2024

11. Brake hose Napa 36959

12. Banjo bolts Napa 82703
