I would have never considered it, but now we have a 2019 Honda CR-V 1.5, and it has a turbo.  I expected it to be really spitless on the test drive, but was impressed.  (I had previously taken a Chevy that had one installed on a test drive, and the salesman said "Get on it", so I did.  So I've since thought that maybe that might really put these old engines in a different class.
