colbs Posted January 29, 2023 Report Posted January 29, 2023 I was able to get my hands on a nos washer fluid jar and pump but my 48 only had the basket when I bought it 4 years ago and I am really happy and excited to install this part as my car is still around 95-97% original my only problem is I have no idea where the pump is supposed to go nor do I know where the hoses are to be ran. Has anyone here ever done one or know how and where everything needs to go?? Quote
DonaldSmith Posted January 29, 2023 Report Posted January 29, 2023 I installed a NOS Jiffy Jet some years ago. Youi have the bracket for the bottle. You scored the bottle and the pump. I assume that the bottle would be the most likely part to break. The pump may wear out or be damaged by freezing. Other parts could be less susceptible to damage by freezing. Maybe your car there has a pump in place. Look on the floor between the brake pedal and the clutch pedal. Is there a shine thing sticking up? That would be the plunger for the pump under the floor. Push the plunger, squirt the windshield. The pump looks like a small metallic football, one hose from the bottle and one hose to the squirters. Look at the instrument panel between the wiper switch and the divider bar of the windshield. Is there a metallic tube coming up and going through the divider bar? The hose from the pump goes to the metallic tube assembly. Is there a squirter on the outside of the divider bar? Two small swivel balls, each with a hole for the fluid to come out. Good luck. We're all counting on you. Quote
colbs Posted January 29, 2023 Author Report Posted January 29, 2023 I can honestly say that the pump was not there, I have had the floor pan out several times for various reasons while working on her. There is a hole behind the wiper switch but never a metal tube, as far as the swivel balls I have never noticed but I will take a look when I am with the car next! But I appreciate the information and will let you know how it goes! Is the tubing that goes under the divider bar a findable part or should I think of trying to make one? Quote
DonaldSmith Posted January 29, 2023 Report Posted January 29, 2023 Tubing - threaded portion; interior nut and washer; bend , grommet (divider and interior cover drilled) Spray head: threads onto tube 2 Quote
colbs Posted January 30, 2023 Author Report Posted January 30, 2023 Looks like I'll be looking for more parts! Quote
colbs Posted January 31, 2023 Author Report Posted January 31, 2023 @DonaldSmith is there any chance you can take a picture of where the plunger is located between the clutch and brake pedals? I will most likely be going in the morning to work on the car for a little while if its not raining when I get off in the morning (I unfortunately dont have a garage at this time). And also I dont have anything bigger than a trim screw hole for the last spot on the interior trim divider bar, the only spot that was bigger (than a trim screw) had a nut welded on for the rearview mirror. I'm new to this era of car and have learned quite a bit but I also want it as close to right as I can possibly get it. My '48 is about 97% original with matching numbers and I being the 4th owner from what I can tell from the cars history Quote
colbs Posted January 31, 2023 Author Report Posted January 31, 2023 I also know there is not a hole on the exterior divider bar but that could've been covered when it was re-dipped in the 90s, so I may have to rectify that situation. I will hopefully know more when I see the car tomorrow if not I will try working on it all day wednesday the 1st, weather permitting. Quote
DonaldSmith Posted January 31, 2023 Report Posted January 31, 2023 I expect that you will see remnants of the Jiffy Jet setup here and there. Dashboard: The PO furnished loose a re-woodgrained dash that had the hole in the right place, with a wood-grained plug. Windshield Divider: I had to drill through the inside and outside covers and the divider itself. Floor: I wound up making a removable sub-panel for the pump and mechanical brake switch, so that I could service them without taking out the whole panel, and conversely, could remove the large panel without disturbing the pump and brake switch. I think I have instructions somewhere, at least in photographic form. Send me a PM so that I can share the intricate details. 1 Quote
colbs Posted January 31, 2023 Author Report Posted January 31, 2023 Thanks so much! I finally got pictures myself! I have pictures now but I have to figure out how to add them bc its not allowing me to from my phone ??? Quote
colbs Posted February 1, 2023 Author Report Posted February 1, 2023 Here are the Pictures I took, Im thinking where that bolt I located betwixt the brake and clutch is a prime spot to place the pump what are your thoughts? Quote
colbs Posted February 1, 2023 Author Report Posted February 1, 2023 And Also do you care to show me the location of your brake light switch because is actually located near my radiator and is fluid activated from what I can tell Quote

DonaldSmith Posted February 1, 2023 Report Posted February 1, 2023 Responded to colbs' private message. Found sheets of instructions. I abandoned the hydraulic brake switch and added a mechanical switch under the floor. Stay tuned. 1 Quote
