TooBadBrad Posted September 18, 2022 Report Posted September 18, 2022 I put together my 38 coupe years ago using aftermarket smooth running boards. I didn't have the originals or the mounts so I made my own, bolting the mounts directly to the frame and the boards. I've developed a crack in a front fender from a mounting hole inward and am wondering if this is because of my mounts. Were they supposed to be rubber mounted so they could flex with the body mounts? Thanks Quote
andyd Posted September 18, 2022 Report Posted September 18, 2022 Can't answer for 1938 models but my 1940 Oz Dodge which is Plymouth based and uses the exact same mounting setup as USA cars has the running board brackets solidly bolted to the chassis and running boards together with a bolt at each end of the running board that goes thru the lower edge of the front & rear fender.....no rubber is used at all, the boards are solid mounted and I would think that they would have been all thru the years...........but happy to be proven wrong..........do you have any anti squeek or welting between the fender and the body as it is/was supposed to allow some movement but not a lot.................andyd Quote
TooBadBrad Posted September 18, 2022 Author Report Posted September 18, 2022 Yes I have welting. I think it's mounted right, just wanted to make sure. Who knows what caused the crack. It's getting time for a repaint anyway! Quote
