rrunnertexas Posted February 2, 2022 Report Posted February 2, 2022 Installed in my 1935 Plymouth PJ is an Allstate Sears car heater unit. Pulling it apart there was a handwritten date from 1962. The heater core leaks and needs replacement, but no luck so far finding one. Most of the heater core listings I have seen are for specific vehicles and not aftermarket heater boxes like this one. Any ideas where to search for a replacment by size/type? Has anyone ever had a heater core rebuilt at a radiator shop? Quote
allbizz49 Posted February 2, 2022 Report Posted February 2, 2022 Take it to a radiator shop. They should be able to repair what you have. Quote
Loren Posted February 2, 2022 Report Posted February 2, 2022 A personal opinion, worth exactly what you pay for it: A radiator shop can...if they will fix it, that's what they do. However, if it were me, I'd take the opportunity to install a Stewart-Warner SouthWind heater. Those things are collector's items by themselves and they put out heat like nobody's business! The guy that invented them was a Canadian and got tired of freezing his keister off. They run off gasoline from the carburetor so they heat up within a minute (as advertised). They were UL approved and also used on aircraft so they were FAA approved as well. All the combustion takes place under vacuum and so if the engine stops so does the fuel flow. Very safe and they don't leak coolant or gasoline for that matter. Just my humble opinion. Ebay has 223 listings for them but I have the name of a guy who repairs them and has complete kits. 1 Quote
