Hello group,   acquired a 1941 Fargo, 6 volt of course, converted over to 12 volts.

The gas gauge is of the thermal heater type, what is the common method of reducing 12 volts to 6 volts so that I don't burn out the gauge. A 12v to 6v instrument panel voltage regulator comes to mind but I am open to suggestions..

Cheers,

Bob.

I put one of these on my 51 Dodge to replace a old failing 12 volt converter. The real nice thing about these units that you can control the voltage output with an adjustable screw on the back of the unit. My fuel gauge is very accurate now. I went to the Drok site and ordered and it was shipped form Singapore to Canada at a very reasonable price.

I just picked up a '42 Fargo but she is staying close to original.

Awesome Wraith, I had no idea so many devices existed.  I owe you one but by the looks of your project car list it looks like you have everything covered.

Chat soon.

I used a PMIC solid state linear voltage regulator which are very small and can be attached to back of gauge housing. Very inexpensive. Works perfectly. Only issue is you'll need to be able to make really small soldered connections. https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/micro-commercial-co/MC7806CT-BP/MC7806CT-BPMS-ND/804683
