Looking for some good advice on sourcing quality and correct sized and shaped rubbers for my 38 D9 Dodge Sedan. I have tried Steele and although the cowl vent rubber is numbered the same as the original parts book it doesn't fit in size or shape. According to the Parts Book the Dodge and Plymouth of 1938 share the same part no.s when it comes to cowl vent, hood and door bumpers. Have read some of the old threads on these rubbers and am wondering if any of you guys have come across some good suppliers or is it still just as it was a few years ago. It's a bugger ordering parts that don't turn out to be what they are supposed to be.

Last week I put a cowl vent gasket on my 47 Plymouth.  I got if from  Andy Bernbaum at "oldmoparts.com for $35.00.  I don't know what your setup is but for mine, I got the single piece gasket and it works fine.  (No leaking).  The vent door was sticking to the gasket for a while until I put some silicone on it and now it works great.  I have gotten plenty of parts from this site and have been satisfied 99.9% of the time.

I tried Steele and got cast iron........go with Andy Bernbaums, Roberts or check ebay...........the only good thing that Steele do is the paper catalog, purely to get an idea on shapes etc........my Oz 2 cents worth..........andyd

Thank you both. I do deal with Bernbaums and generally they have been good. Have twice bought the cowl vent rubber from ebay, one being Steele and they were incorrect. Best result so far has been a nos rubber that is perfect fit but deteriorated a bit because of age. Will give them a call.

Keen to hear about all the hood and side panel rubber bumpers too, size etc. There used to be stores that had this sort of thing but they have disappeared over the years as the bigger chain stores have emerged.

Pete, although my Dodge uses an Oz TJ Richards body shell I have had good fortune getting stuff from AB's, good to deal with, correct parts, packed well and sent promptly......however I have also been able to get the various rubber bumpers around the hood opening and other areas from an Oz rubber supplier called Clark Rubber, the front door 1/4 window rubber I sourced locally as the Oz body used different length pieces to the US body............as your car is a US sourced car you should be o/k.........BTW.........I'd strongly suggest getting a paper copy of Andy Bernbaums catalog if its still available.............or at least print out the on line version, I have it plus a few other companies catalogs that I've collected over the past 40 odd years including those *********, Steele Rubber and its always worthwhile to compare not only prices but more importantly what each company says is correct.......and I also have the 1936-42 Plymouth Master Parts Catalog which I bought online when I had the 41 Plymouth Coupe a few years ago, it was a US Factory RHD Export car, assembled in South Africa and whilst it was 1941 and the Dodge is 1940 it was illuminating to compare the differences and similarities between the US and Oz body shells and various fitting used..........especially as the Oz Mopars were essentially Plymouth based in chassis length and sheetmetal usage ..........personally the more literature you can obtain the more informed you will be and therefore able to sort the wheat from the chaff......or **** from clay to use the vernacular.........lol...........and am happy to check the Master Parts Book if you need anything checked.........either via here or give me a call on 61-02-6642-5963 anytime..........regards, Andy Douglas
