Transmission oil for 1947 New Yorker straight 8

Looked at shop manual and it calls for 10W oil for transmission. I note that Universal Tractor oil #134 is stated in the technical specs part of this website to be the proper fluid for the torque converter and it also says that this same fluid is used in some manual transmissions instead of lube oil. Any thoughts on what I must use in my transmission?

# 134 would work.

As would about the same # AW 32 hydraulic fluid.

No torque converter in your N-Yorker... just a simple fluid coupling.

Fluid Drive is what your car is..Fluid Drive is the same as a Fluid Coupling..
Chrysler Torque Converters  did not come into reality till 1951...AKA Fluid Torque Drive!

There where over names foe it across the MoPar car lines.

10 weight oil is whats used in the trans from new...

So yes you can use #134. I have run 20W in these M5/M6 transmissions!

They are a pretty tough unit.

There is a guy selling 10W in the WPC News...Bob Solheim, Simi Valley CA

Nothing like a great running Chrysler Straight Eight car!

Glad to help Harvey and good luck!

That's for sure!

I want to drain the transmission and fill it with #134. I bought the car 3 years ago and the previous owner has now passed away, therefore I don't know and can't find out what kind of lube  fluid is already in there. I certainly don't want to damage the unit at all and I am uncertain about how the #134 will react with the remnants of any fluid left in the transmission after I drain it. Should I be concerned about this? Should I flush out the transmission with some solvent before I put in the #134? Am I overthinking this?
