It was such a nice day Sat. that we got the Desoto powered hot rod out and headed for a Pontiac/Oakland show about 30 miles away. Things went great for about 20 miles of it when the car started sounding a little strange. A quick glance at the guages showed the car in melt down mode so I pulled it over to check. Coolant fluid was pouring out the bottom of the radiator. I went to call for help...BUT fergot the cell phone..A nice young kid stopped and gave us a ride back to a sevice station a friend runs..Called my BIL and he brought his trailer over and we went and got the car. Since we were close to the show, we drove on over to it. It was held in the parking lot of a large outlet mall near Omaha. They had a large area roped off and check-in stands set up but no cars and this was 11:30 a.m. We took the hot rod back to my house and drove it into the car shop for repairs...sometime...Later about 3:30 we jumped in the "49er" Dodge, that I had just replaced the tranny in, and drove back over...still no cars...So we just finnished the day with a 2 hr. cruize threw the back roads...The 49er ran perfect. Maybe this winter I will think about disc brakes and would really like to do some kind of power steering if that is possible....Oh well...lots to do...John

John;

Was it just a radiator leak or something else? Sounds like the car show was a bust. There was suspossed to be a Sunday afternoon show at a local strip mall here in the Boro. I drove down an hour after the appointed start time and there was only one car (a 70 Camaro) in the lot. I drove by without stopping and went for a drive in the country instead.

Don, I think everyone and his Unkle are trying to promote some kind of car show. Around here we 2-3 a weekend sometimes...way to much overkill..One good one a month is OK for me...Heck I'd rather be out driving...jb

About this time a year I am all car showed out. just want to drive a little:cool: and get something cold to drink. October the big shows end the season and it's nice and cool again. Hope nothing is seriously wrong with your car. This is why we have to drive them every once and a while to keep these mean machines in running condition:D

Nah...I don't think there is anything wrong other than a leaky radiator...part of the problem may be that, in an effort to keep it running cooler, I went to a 16 lb pressure cap...might have been more than the radiator could take...I will go back to a 7 lb'er or so and will remove every other grill insert in an effort to get more air to the radiator...I actually like doing all of this experimenting..it's the breakdowns when I am wrong that suck...john

After a year of negotiating I finally made the purchase of a 29 DeSoto coupe. Somewhere back in the years the top was liberated and it will now be my roadster. I am thrilled! I want to find a DeSoto, or at least a Mopar radiator shell if possible. I've got a 230, T-5 five speed, and 8 3/4 rear end ready to go.

Relevance to your post: I can hook you up when you get ready for disc brakes, let me know. I worked out a Mopar rotor onto Model A spindles last year.

John, I think you were a day to soon. I know it was promoted as an all weekend show, but Saturday most were over in Iowa. They had a rally at that race track near the Glenwood (I think) exit.

My neighbor has two 64 GTO convertibles, and I know they were in Gretna all day Sunday. Also I saw my brother-in-law (68 Firebird convertible) Sunday afternoon, and he was out there Sunday morning. He said it was a big show, a little disappointed with the swap meet though. Lee
