Norm's Coupe Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 I agree with that. I'm only asking as the motor I have in there now is coming out this winter as I have another motor I am rebuilding. I'm just enjoying driving the car with this motor until the other one is complete. I'm going to drive the car over to Indiana next weekend and was wanting an easy fix for now. Not looking into investing any more money in this engine, what little I have invested now. In that case, it really doesn't matter then. If I was planning to rebuild or replace an old engine, I'd use whatever I could in the old engine to cut down on the oil burning. So............either the diesel oil, a can of STP (or something similar) or just a heavier weight oil should help you cut down a little on oil consumption. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 WOW, a 6V53. I've worked on many of those. I had to change a blower on one once, and after I got it together I had to set the rack and check the RPM. This engine had a no load rpm of 4500. DAMN, that thing SCREAMED! That's the highese RPM I've ever dealt with on a diesel engine. Those 6V53's have a very distince sound. A fellow I used to work with (long since retired) would call them "converter engines" because all they did was convert fuel into noise. Merle Quote

Merle Merle, if you like a loud diesel engine you should hear my next door neighbors diesel Dodge Ram Dually. That thing will wake up the dead, especially around midnight while trying to sleep. So......maybe buy one of those, better yet buy my neighbors, PLEASE. In a way I hope the gas prices stay high. Ever since they jumped several months back he doesn't drive it as much. :) Quote
