fede Posted June 29, 2017 Report Posted June 29, 2017 Hello everyone, I'm again asking for help about the 46 DeSoto SP15! For some time now we've been trying to get an appropiate fabric to redo the seats and door panles (the interior was redone in the 70s, so there are original fabrics in the car), but we can't get anything close here (Uruguay). The only available things are for modern cars (80+), vinyls, leather, or fabrics for furniture. Because of this, the more probable thing until now is to do it with leather (although it is a 4 door, and originally it was cloth. I think convertibles were leather). Is it possible to get any fabric close to the original in the US? (it doesn't have to be strictly original, just something close in design and color) any that can be recommended? The only I heard of (here in p15-d24) is SMS Auto Fabrics. I sent them a question and I am waiting for the response. Thanks for your help! Tomorrow I will upload a photo of the current seats and the options we have here now, and I attach now a photo of the exterior, just because I like it! Finally, and not related to the question, I finally checked and the block is 23 inches long. If I remember what I read some time ago, that and the vin number (11 538 034) confirm it was built in Detroit. Regards, Federico Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 29, 2017 Report Posted June 29, 2017 In my 1948 Dodge I use 1950ish period correct seat belts. They look good to me and cost a lot less that sewing in new fabric. Quote

fede Posted June 29, 2017 Author Report Posted June 29, 2017 @Don Coatney they look good! I'd like to do that because as you say it is way cheaper, but sadly the seats now are very plasticky and it's impossible to drive more than 5 minutes without sweating, so I'd prefer to take that out. I really like your door panels, windows frame and dashboard! @casper50 thanks for the links, I'll check them. Have you ever bought anything from them? Quote
Brent Posted June 29, 2017 Report Posted June 29, 2017 I used smas a few years ago for my 48 chrysler club cp. I believe the fabric was new old stock. it was good quality and the company was easy to deal with. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted June 29, 2017 Report Posted June 29, 2017 Hmmm.....appears to be a DeSoto export model using a 46-48 Plymouth P15 body. I think the suggestion of S M S is good. I got some older style material for my Plymouth in Kansas City, Missouri but the wholesaler has either gone out of business or is currently trying to go out. J R Veteran Company has been around since world war 2 and the owners want to retire. He is some information on the place......you might call them to check. fede Posted July 2, 2017 Author Report Posted July 2, 2017 thanks everyone for all the suggestions! I asked for the samples from SMS, and I'll see then what happens... In the meantime, I'm about to buy the steering and gearshift boot from oldmoparts.com Quote
casper50 Posted July 3, 2017 Report Posted July 3, 2017 That's where I got my boot also. Very satisfied with it. Quote
