Hubler13f Posted May 31, 2017 Report Posted May 31, 2017 Hello, Does anyone have or know where to get the studs that hold the center section in the rear end housing on a 48 P15? I have a tendency of turning into a 300 pound guerilla then over tightening and breaking stuff. This was the case last night when I saw the rear end was loosing a very small amount of diff fluid and I decided to retorque the nuts on the center section and I snapped the lowest center one. It's not leaking now but it will bug me until I fix it, and I don't want to tear it apart without the proper stud to fix it. Thanks in advance. Quote
Dartgame Posted May 31, 2017 Report Posted May 31, 2017 Hardware or autoparts store. If these are indeed studs and not shoulder bolts. You would need to pull the center section and find it out. Quote
Hubler13f Posted May 31, 2017 Author Report Posted May 31, 2017 Yeah I figured it would be one of those obscure hard to find unless I knock it out of a donor parts. I could probably make something out of my bolt bin work. I just hate getting into the middle of what should be a quick fix, then having to get cleaned up and run into town to find something that may or may not work. I tore this rear end down last rear when the pinion bearing locked up on me at 55mph. I know they are some type of stud, just don't know what the knurl looks like. Oh well, when I make the repair I could knock it out weld it back together and rethread it if nothing else works. Quote
dpollo Posted May 31, 2017 Report Posted May 31, 2017 This is not going to be a quick fix given that you have to pull the axles and the gearset to get the stud out. It is capped and splined on the inner end. A source may be found at the transmission brake drum to driveshaft coupling as four similar bolts are used there. Otherwise I will send you one for the cost of postage if you send me a PM. Quote
Hubler13f Posted May 31, 2017 Author Report Posted May 31, 2017 (edited) It's not a bad job, I could easily bust it out in 2-4 hours depending on how stubborn things decide to be. I'll take you up on that offer, PM sent. Edit: of course the first time I removed the rear drums it took me a hour to get the drivers side off. It was VERY stubborn.
