jmooner3 Posted May 1, 2017 Report Posted May 1, 2017 Hey guys, I could use some help. Any pictures welcome as well. I've searched and found a couple pics of terminal blocks mounted on rad support, Mine's a 49 but no terminal strips mounted there. The parts truck had no sheetmetal or rad. But the wires laying in the engine compartment have the terminal strips still hanging in the spaghetti. I also found a few different pics of tail lights on our trucks from far away but I'd like to see how people are mounting them up... I just rewired the 49 B1B 108. I added the signal stat 900. and It's still just a cab on a frame so easy to wire. Looks like the harness is supposed to run along the drivers side frame rail given the clips mounted in the inside of the frame. I have a set of Model A dual bulb tail lights that I'll fab a mount for, I just refurbished the headlight buckets and will do the park lights with dual filament socket like Merle pointed out for signals and park. Front: 1. Where does the harness come out of the frame for left front? is it through one of the holes in the frame or stays inside the frame and then up to the rad mounts? Pictures and insight welcome. 2. Where is the crossover for the headlights and parking lights run? Is it in the frame or is it mounted in the front clip? I've run a longer length of wire to the front and rear with plenty of length to make it to the four corners...But I'm thinking I might do the crossover with terminal strips to hook the buckets in...just looking for how to terminate. I was thinking I'd add a larger 5 post terminal strip to accommodate the signal wires and additional ground I ran to the four corners.( Park, Signal, Ground, Hi, Low) Rear: Looks like it also runs down the drivers frame rail, has a pop out wire for the gas gauge and heads to the tail lights. I have no box on the truck and front clip is not on yet either. (if anyone has a source for the fuel gauge I'm interested) 1. Could use advice on how (and where) to mount the tail lights - to the frame or to the box? And to what part? I'm ok with the welder and I can fab something to mount in either spot. My lights came with bullet connections but I'm not sure where to run the harness to connect to them... 2. Do the wires come out through one of the holes in the rear frame rail or just above or below...? 3. Is the crossover in a cross member,in the c channel, or some other way? Hey it's another opportunity for pictures of your truck ;-) Seriously, any help on any of these questions welcome! Thanks, Jay Quote
ggdad1951 Posted May 1, 2017 Report Posted May 1, 2017 while at work I can answer #1 for you: there is a bracket that mounts to the front of the rear stake pocket to hold the tail lights. 1 Quote
Frank's 49 Posted May 1, 2017 Report Posted May 1, 2017 check this link for some wiring harness info and diagrams. http://dodgepilothouseclub.org/know/wiring_harness/B1_series_wiring_details.pdf The front light harness runs along the inside of the left fender (you should see some holes for clips). The cross-over goes through two clips on the inside of the radiator shroud. I actually deleted the block on the right side and just ran wires from the left side block directly to the lights on the right. For my rear light harness, i had to make a termial block, as the body is all wood, and i had to provide some ground wires. I ran extra wires for turn signals and future back up lights (maybe). The wires run along inside the left frame rail and through some holes in the cross-members. I will include some pictures. The yellow and blue wires are turn signals (the unattached wires are the "parking lights"), some day i might install additional lights, or double filament bulbs). and clean up the harness. 1 Quote
jmooner3 Posted May 1, 2017 Author Report Posted May 1, 2017 Wow, GDad that is one fine looking truck! Even the DodgeBrothers bolts holding on your brake lights are perfect! Thanks to you and "Frank's" for taking the time to take and send some pics, very helpful!!! Exactly what i was looking for. I might run my front crossover under the rad along the frame cross member as my rad was pushed forward two inches and welded into the mount to allow the PO to put the long block desoto in that I got seized with the truck ;-). There is little clearance between the shroud and the rad and it probably will get pretty heated up there. I found a nice set of 6 place terminals for the point to point harness connections and they have covers. If it works out, I'll have the three screw originals available for someone doing a restoration. Quote
