mtdodgetruck Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 Found a 1948 COE 131 inch wheel base with third party Giant Manufacturing Company bed in fair condition. Five speed and two speed rear with dump. Needs complete restore but all there. Anyone tell me how desirable these trucks are compared to conventional 1plus ton trucks? How much harder are they to work on? Left lower step has been modified and both doors have rust at bottom. Did they offer different two speed gear ratios and if so is there a way to determine what it is? Can anyone tell me if there is a way to determine if a five speed is regular or over drive? Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 2 speed Rear axles used in the Dodge 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 tonners were Eaton 1350 0r 1650 series with capacities of around 13,500 to 14,500 lbs. 2 ratios were available. Bob Quote
mtdodgetruck Posted July 26, 2007 Author Report Posted July 26, 2007 Other than counting revs. is there a stamping or was there a tag showing gear ratio. I've five ton 1/2 plus trucks, three have 2 speeds and all are different GVWs. The axel end caps all have same bolt count and to the eye look the same. Quote
mtdodgetruck Posted August 4, 2007 Author Report Posted August 4, 2007 With help from Ken Foit found out there is a stamping on the top of the axel next to filler plug of ratio. Thanks again Ken Quote
