1938 Plymouth trunk emblem background

Hello, Does anyone know what color the background piece is on the trunk emblem of a 1938 Plymouth. Any help would be appreciated.

I do not have any trunk emblems on my Coupes, but the front emblems differ from the Delux Coupe front emblem

have a ruby red background, and Bus Coupe have a black background on the front emblem....

This is the piece that came off it. Its painted red but I can see remains of black paint on it.

I would say red would be the original background.

I have this exact emblem and all the original paint left on the backplate is red.
