48 Dodge D-24 Fan Belt

I've got my 48 D-24 engine all back together and ready to run except for the fan belt. The original belt got mislaid and now I'm trying to find a new one. I purchased a Gates 7490 that the parts interchange list on this site suggested. I find that this belt is probably 4 or 5 inches too short for whatever reason. Any suggestions for a belt that will fit correctly?

Measure how much longer you need then go to auto parts and buy one that is 4 or 5 inches longer.  When I changed the generator to an alternator I had to buy one that was shorter by 2 inches.

I am running a gates TR24489 on my Plymouth 3/4 wide 49 3/8 inches long

The Gates belt is approximately 49 5/8 inches, and appears that a good fit would be 52 - 54 inches.

Do I take the Gates belt with me so they can see the belt width and depth?

 the !st # is the width of the belt , the last three ate the length [49.0 "], try for a 7450 , or use a piece of string to get a total length

For my power steering project, I've got various belts from Grainger Industrial Supply.  They seem to be international.  I would order a belt on line and pick it up at the store the same day or the next day.  If the belt was too long or too short, I would return it for another size.  As the project evolved, I would order a few different sizes at a time.

EDIT: post edited as OP has a different engine in the vehicle than when it left the plant.
