JerseyHarold Posted May 28, 2016 Report Posted May 28, 2016 My '52 Cambridge got a flat tire in my garage so I pulled a replacement from my stack of 'rollers'. The original 15" wheels have hubcap clips and 10 holes ( 5 for lug bolts and 5 for locating pins). The one I attempted to use has 6 holes and no clips. The pilot (center) hole is slightly smaller than the rear hub flange so it didn't fit right. That came as a surprise because I always thought everything is interchangeable. Luckily I have another 10 hole wheel with clips I can use. I'm going to go through my collection of wheels and only keep the ones that fit my cars. Are there wheel interchange 'rules of thumb' that say (for example) '6 hole wheels started in 195x and won't fit earlier cars'? Does anyone know of a wheel interchange chart that would spell this out? Thanks for any ideas. Harold Quote
dpollo Posted May 28, 2016 Report Posted May 28, 2016 The wheels which will fit your car will be Plymouth 48 to 56 and Desoto and Chrysler (wider) 48 to 54. Dodge in the USA have a different offset and did not need the alignment pin since the hubs had studs. Canadian Dodge were like Plymouth Your car should have 15 by 4 1/2 wheels but different years had slightly different offsets so it is a good idea to measure. Chrysler Desoto and Canadian Big Dodge used 15 by 5 1/2. 2 Quote
JerseyHarold Posted May 28, 2016 Author Report Posted May 28, 2016 Thanks for the info. This should help me weed out the collection. Quote
