furiousgeorge Posted February 24, 2016 Report Posted February 24, 2016 I have a '52ish 251 for my '48 1/2 ton, but it came with nothing but the engine itself and the distributor. I put an add up for parts locally and there are a few possibilities, but they are from an older engine (ones a '38 and the other a '42). I'm needing the air cleaner, carb, all the linkage parts, starter, generator and flywheel. What year range are these engines compatible with each other? Thanks! Quote
dpollo Posted February 24, 2016 Report Posted February 24, 2016 (edited) Starter, generator and flywheel should all fit , carb may work but earlier models did not have the beveled air cleaner clamp and a 251 will need more carburetor than a 218. You may also need the front sump oil pan and pick up tube. You will be amazed at the compatibility of parts but the newer pieces will work better since some changes were made to improve performance.
