James_Douglas Posted December 22, 2015 Report Posted December 22, 2015 On my 4800 pound '46 Desoto Suburban I have used both the 4.11 gears and the 3.9 Gears. I have also used the M5 and the 3-speed with BW Overdrive. Today I am running the 3.9 and the 3-speed with BW Overdrive AND the fluid coupling. In my '49 CV I have the M6 and the 3.9 gears. I run it at 65-70 without any issue. It is "buzzy" however at 70. If I was going to drive it a lot, I would put in an overdrive. Attached is some excel work I did with the gears like 10 or more years back. I did not check it before I posted it below, but it should be correct. If gives you an idea on the gears. James. 1 Quote

Thanks for the info! I have added a 3.55 explorer axle swap to my list. Unless I come across an OD trans, than a 4.11 explorer axle. Lol love my gyro, just wish it had OD! Love not shifting and clutching. It's great in town traffic. After driving all manual vehicles for 20 years, a fellow gets tired of shifting gears. Especially in my 6spd diesel Ram in traffic. CoronetGuy Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 Anything ever happen with this? I too have a 52 coronet with the M6 gyromatic, not sure what my gear ratio is. I am debating swapping in a different rear end. I've read that most explorer 8.8 axles have 3.73 gear. Some have 3.55 or 4.10. The 4.10 is found in eddie bauer edition explorers Quote
mopar_earl Posted March 1, 2016 Author Report Posted March 1, 2016 No I haven't done the swap yet nor got the axle needed. You car should have 3.90's but best to check as the car could of been ordered with different gears or been changed. Earl Quote
