I know that there are a million posts & threads on the forum about rear end possibilities. Is there any place I could find out if there is a differential with a higher(3.55 or 3.73 vs 3.9 or 4.1) ratio that would fit in my original rear end housing. 1949 Desoto custom coupe.

If you have a 49 Desoto aprts manual check the section on the differential. It should list the various ring and pinion rnages that would have been avilable for your 49 Desoto.

 

If you can find the number then keep searching onthe bay but I would also get a matched set to insure that the ring and pinion will mate up with each other.
